More thoughts on the ongoing microtransaction discussion. I personally agree with everything Datto says in this, and think he generally has more grounded takes than most in the community. I particularly agree with his thoughts on Cross’ “pay-to-win” arguments.

What does everyone else think?

I think both videos have good points but Cross’ is way more hyperbolic and reactionary.

I agree with Datto on pay to win in that it’s basically non existent unless you have really specific definitions. Unless you could straight up buy something like the immortal or Prometheus lens during laser tag weekend then I don’t think we don’t have pay to win.

Now, paying to have access to trials to be available to play on the weekend when immortal is up and have a good team or dumb luck to go flawless AND get a god roll is stretching it.

I don’t like MTX and I think they’re a bit of a problem but I understand that I’m in the minority and absolutely wasting breath trying to tell people not to pay for them.

I think a lot of this boils down on what each person defines as “pay to win”. This is vague and subjective - how does one “win” Destiny 2?

I don’t hear anyone arguing with Cross saying Destiny 2 has a free trial but if you want to play the game, you have to pay, and Bungie intentionally makes it hard to know what to buy if you’re on a budget.
