Late Stage Capitalism@lemmy.world•The Real A.I. Problem No One Is Talking About (Who Buys Your Stuff, Robots?) - InvidiousEnglish
2·24 hours agoAnd I agree with them, if you go look at my other recent comments I’d actually like to see:
Communism for land ownership, Socialism for necessities, and Capitalism for supplying additional options to necessities, and all luxuries.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you think the government should regulate who can or cannot have children?English
3·2 days agoPlenty of examples of people burning down capitalism/mercantilism based societies too… It’s happening right now in the US.
Capitalism is not freedom, nor the devil. It’s just a tool. The same as communism or socialism. They each have their pros and cons.
Look at Canada, better healthcare because… Socialism. Cheaper more functional electrical companies because… Socialism. Then they use Capitalism for other industries that work just fine.
The economic system should really be set per-industry based on which one is likely to provide the best outcome.
As a broad overview, In my opinion, Communism should be used for land ownership, Socialism for core necessities, and Capitalism for luxuries.

2·2 days agoCapitalism has many market failures. Long term planning is one of them.
This is really a problem with Shareholders giving the wrong incentives to management via bonuses on short term value gains.
Really Rich people? Millions to tens of millions.
All economic systems lack something, the question really comes down to which one is the least bad and how to drive it properly. Socialism (government ownership) and Communism (public ownership) both suck at producing variety and innovating for example and need to be specifically forced/controlled to do those activities.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Trump is reportedly taking aim at Canada and raising alarms about its ‘vulnerability’English
8·2 days agoAgreed, but our military will be useless. The civilian guerrilla fighting will make them wish they had impeached trump the first time.
And its not going to be limited to Canadian territory. It would be stupidly easy to get across the border into the US and blend in to reach targets.

News@lemmy.world•US boy, 11, allegedly shoots father to death after Nintendo Switch taken awayEnglish
51·2 days agoYou’re the one not living in reality, Wikipedia even has an article related to this:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_youngest_killers
There are only two entries on that entire list of a child killing an adult without using a gun, both in China. One was the strangulation of a grandmother who was beating him, and the other a stabbing of a mother who was also beating him.
On the other hand, there are 11 entries of a child using a gun to kill an adult.
A gun didn’t walk into that room, but if a gun had not been in that house, it’s almost certain that father would still be alive. Another case of someone buying a gun for self protection, only to have it be the reason they died.

5·2 days agoCapitalism is not logic challenged, that’s part of the problem, people misunderstanding it.
Capitalism is just a concept, a method of doing things. There’s no reason why we need to allow it to operate freely. We choose what rules it plays by, and how to enforce those rules.
The government already regulates plenty of things so that Capitalism chooses a slightly better direction. The trick we need to pull off is regulating capitalism in a way that is beneficial for society, rather than just specific people which we’re doing a pretty shitty job of right now.

Late Stage Capitalism@lemmy.world•The Real A.I. Problem No One Is Talking About (Who Buys Your Stuff, Robots?) - InvidiousEnglish
12·2 days agoLots of people have talked about this.
The first problem is that “it’s someone else’s problem” since the market doesn’t change that fast.
The second problem is that there are still rich people who own the robots that can buy things.
The final piece of the puzzle is that Capitalism doesn’t give a shit about individual people unless their existence is maximizing profit somehow. It would happily(I say this knowing capitalism isn’t a person and has no emotion) allow the population of the earth to drop down to 1 million if that optimized profit for shareholders.

52·2 days agoOne whack with a ball peen from an 11 year old child?
Only if they know exactly where to aim (specific parts of the head) and get a bit lucky too. If the kid whacks him in the chest with it, he isn’t likely going to die.
People survive lots of things, as a whole guns are more effective than other means and you know it.

It’s literally flour, baking powder, and a bit of salt, oil, and water.
Why the hell would you need a mix for it?
It doesn’t even need to use milk or eggs like pancakes, which is often why those have pre-mixes.
