  • not as many as there are BLs currently, but they’re exploding in popularity.

some of the big BL studios, like GMMTV, are starting to realize that there’s also a market for GLs. earlier this year they released 23.5 Degrees, starring MilkLove, a side couple from GMMTVs very popular BL ‘Bad Buddy.’ it turned out to be a pretty standard GMMTV high school drama, but it was executed well, and had a diverse and compelling cast of character.

because it did so well with viewers, it’s predicted that GMMTV will have more GLs in their next line-up. as of now, they already have two GLs in production: Pluto (trailer), which will probably air soon, and Us (trailer). the latter i’m super excited about, but i don’t think they’ve started shooting yet.

other popular ones from different studios: GAP the series (2022), Blank (2024), The Secret of Us (2024), The Loyal Pin (2024 ~ just started aired).

the quality and variety of thai GLs has really increased over the last two years, and there are many more set to release in 2024/2025.

so in conclusion: good times ahead for the GL enjoyer flag-lesbian-pride flag-bi-pride screm-cool

  • the one that got me hooked was GMMTVs Only Friends. it’s an exploration of the lines between sex, love, and friendship. tons of fun, with relationships that gets super messy and complicated. the director is openly gay, and so much of the show feels, at least to me, very true to irl queer culture. also, sandray4life ❤️

another personal fav is GMMTVs Not Me. it’s directed by a trans woman, and stars one of the OG couples of the thai BL industry. the show pushed the envelope pretty hard with its political messaging, and even gets close to some real material analysis here and there. some of it comes off as pretty naive in retrospect (what if we kicked off a mass movement through social media?!!), but the romance between the leads makes up for it.

both are available on GMMTVs youtube channel
