Hi!

I’m 28F from a non - US/UK/Aus/NZ/EU/ASIA country working as an ALT in Japan. I’m kind of struggling right now to decide where I want to see myself in the next few years career wise and now that the big 3-0 is looming I need to start thinking about where I’d like to settle permanently or at least work towards getting some skills to set me up more for the future.

A little background, I worked for about 5 years in a corporate job as an investment administrator (for different orgs like trusts, companies, fund managers etc.), I left the job because management sucked and I wanted to travel. Teaching seemed like a good idea and it’s been about 2,5 years now.

I’d like to somehow transition out of ESL teaching at some point (although I do enjoy the job, the deskwarming and downtime is a driving me crazy). I’ve considered things like an online bootcamp (Data Science or coding with Le Wagon or some other similar one), studying another degree related to what I already worked in or sticking with ESL teaching and getting my Masters in TESOL or teaching degree. My main goal these next two years is to improve or add on to my CV somehow, be that with study or projects.

I would ideally like to move out of Japan and to somewhere else that’s more welcoming and accessible long term to foreigners. And any advice would be appreciated, I don’t want to lose track of time here and get too comfortable with a dead end ALT job.

Has anyone been through something similar studying online or have recommendations? Any resources that you know of that I can access?

P.s I have a Commerce degree, no partner and/or pets, minimal debt with only some family back home so I am open to anything and anywhere.
