Stasis: bonetotem is deeply unsettling, good choice if you want existential horror, mandalore recently made a review about it.
Pathology 2 is also very good, but less of horror, is more about helplessness in a bad situation with no resources. Also has great writing, and you don’t need to play the previous one to understand it (its more of a soft reboot, or rather a remaster).
Cool. I’m not really into horror, but I do like horror adjacent games, and this looks like the perfect bundle for that. Lots of good options that don’t look too intense.
Pathologic 2
I looked on How Long to Beat, and it’s apparently a pretty long game (>30 hours). Is there a lot of starting over, or does it just have that much content?
A bit of starting over, but mainly its a meaty game with a slower pace.
Pathology doesn’t have auto saves, you can only save at grandfather clocks, which are scattered across the main building of town. And since the game has harsh survival you may have to replay bits.
The game has a slower pacing, but lots of content, mainly making decisions and decrypting information from many sources. I wrote a lot in the next section, but realized it might be a bit too much if you want to go in fully blind. Doesnt have story spoilers, mainly about the framework of the game
!The second point need more explaining, the story is set up like an theatre play tragedy, with many characters. Every important character has their own goals and will try to complete them, even if that means to manipulate you, the player. Since everyone has their own agenda, the game gives you time while traversing town to think about your choices and the possible path you may want to take, and who to trust.!<
!In game you are always under time pressure, between trying to find a cure to the plague, saving the sick citizens, helping your allied important characters, while barely surviving yourself. !<
!It sounds a bit paradoxical, but they really hit the feeling of being under pressure they were going for. !<
The game is a real gem, but has a niche. Its like an interactive russian realism novel, about surviving in a harsh place, while making you feel that way.
Wow, thanks for the details! I was originally thinking of putting it off, but the gameplay loop looks really interesting so I’ll give it a shot. Thanks!
You’re welcome, and have a good one.
And dont let the steppe take your sanity :)
I’m sure it will. ;)
