Hi there! Last time I posted here, my problem was solved quickly so I’ll try one more time. :)

I would like to migrate/mirror one of my reddit subs on here including a lot if not all posts. This would mean the following things in excalating order:

  • Make a bot crosspost every new post on the sub
  • Copy seed content (like 50 or 100 posts?)
  • Copy the entire sub history

I have read that this can strain an instance (at least the last one I suppose) and I would like to know if it is ok to do so and if I need any help from someone with high permissions. Optimally, I’d do point three but 1 or 2 would be good as well.

Have a good one! :)

    Hi Haui,

just my perspective regarding mirroring reddit subs to the fediverse. I personally don’t like those posts since they mostly don’t create any activity here and most of the time there isn’t even any response by the post creator over here.

In addition every sub, post and comment created on reddit is owned by reddit since the user transfers all it’s copyright to reddit. That may cause trouble in the future.

That said here is a bot that can do that afaik, it can a least crosspost new content.

Thanks for you opinion! I agree, it does look like certain aspects of the idea are legally rough.

I‘m running errands rn so I wont be able to look right now. But if that (or another bot) would provide bridge capabilities (posting back and forth) we could make it easy for people still on reddit to switch.

The same technique is used in matrix protocol. You can bridge a discord server, signal and many more. This is to ease people into the fediverse and get them away from their corporate overlords.

Just some random thoughts regarding the topic. Thanks again for your feedback. Have a good one!
