Eh. Everyone on the right thinks that a shakeup of power in an over beaurocratic government is log overdo and brings the opportunity for positive change and the potential to root out (undeniable) corruption in the government. Everyone on the left thinks that the system in place deserves to stay and that marring it opens up opportunity for abuse. Also true.
The power is changing. Maybe it will be worse, maybe it will be better. The government was highly corrupt before, and probably will still be after this. Will it be more or less after power changes hands, no one can tell for sure. This has more to do what what kind of people affect change than the systems they are putting in place.
Let’s not pretend like this is a black and white issue. The future is coming fast. We have to have nuance to navigate these situations. Instead of fighting over which power figure is gonna weld their mighty staff, we need our energy to fight for our own individual independence regardless of party.
I do appreciate some nuance and unity between sane people! I think the current happenings are introducing significantly more corruption and being quite open about it, it was certainly a problem before but the degeneration is massively accelerating. We can only hope sanity and ethics prevail and musk and trump lose power, and a more stringent anti-corruption culture arises from it. I don’t think it’s likely, but we can hope. I think it’s far more likely that trump finds a way to stay in power and regardless of whether or not he does the structure and landscape of us government will be set up in such a way as to keep musk in defacto “leadership”.
I hope things will turn out well, but with so much power in the hands of people who are not only extremely unethical but motivated to change the status quo to keep themselves in power, I have a hard time seeing how things could improve from here.
If it’s any consolation, we as a people hold the most power at the end of the day. Our final trump (hehe) card is our compliance. If every single person in the US stopped paying taxes tomorrow, who is gonna enforce them? There are world governments FAR worse off than our own and we are lucky to have been raised in a country where open criticism of the ruling body is not only allowed, but encouraged.
I really think we’ll come out ok. More people than ever are unplugging from the services that for the price of convenience, take away their power. All we can do is work on own own independence and self reliance.

The department of education is mostly just a pass through agency. Standards are set by the states. It doesn’t take 4000 employees to divy up funding.

Bush 43 tried having nantional standards and instituted profiency tests with no child left behind. Due to there being consequences for poorly performing schools and teachers, Obama capitulated to the teachers union and switched to letting the states determine tests and standards. Public school teachers may want what’s best for students but the teachers union does not.
And now we have the insane voucher scheme that will further erode the average educational standards across the country.
If a public school performs poorly they get more money, if a voucher school performs poorly they get closed. In my area voucher schools perform better than public schools and cost half as much.

A requirement for accepting state money is standards have to be met. Private highschool graduates have higher ACT scores, higher acceptence rates into college, higher college graduation rates.

Maybe, and I say maybe, before starting to dismantle core-agencies needed for the maintenance and management of a state, one should look into the meddling between private and public interests. Like, how much of our money is being used to sustain dead-end projects such as Ai development or fossil fuel? Do we want to also look into the military spending and the paths grants provided to this end follow?
