Depending on where I post this, I’m expecting to get censored, because of my critique
So tired of the constant censorship, the mobs, the mods who just delete all your comments/posts when they disagree with you. I’m so tired. I’m not going to name specific people or communities but it should be obvious.
These privacy communities are all run by the same oligarchs who constantly censor and delete you any time you say something they don’t like, or something they disagree with. there’s no way to even have a discussion anymore without constantly being in fear that some mod who can’t touch grass will remove your post or comment. it gets to the point that it become really even shady.
It’s gotten to the point that I feel so repressed and pushed into a corner like it’s a dystopia that I can’t say anything, it’s so ironic. If you say anything bad about the popular and accepted tools or people, then you just get absolutely sh*t on. You get hunted down and crushed.
I have seen this happen to many other people too. People who are trying to have legitimate discussions and get shadow banned or censored for no reason
Over the years I’ve gone by many different accounts and names on various subreddit and a few other sites, including lemmy. Thankfully, a newer age is dawning with these federated servers, and anyone can easily make their own communities, so the censorship will be ineffective I think.
But in the meantime, I’m done. I’m deleting my accounts on reddit and lemmy, and honestly I’m just gonna not participate anymore. I joined these communities because I have a lot of knowledge to contribute, but I’m tired of feeling like everything I try to say is just going to get some mod who doesn’t even get paid, angry at me or the horde swarming me and screaming for saying something that isn’t completely neutral, or saying something they don’t agree with. taking opinionated hard-line approaches just isn’t viable anymore.
I hope my venting resonates with some others.

Same. It even feels like sometime I’m the asshole. People have been great here.
It’s been such a refreshing change for me. I feel like at least one person would just randomly go off on me for some perplexing reason when I was on reddit. I’ve not had that happen yet here at all.
I’ve also had the same experiences here and another Activity Pub platforms (mastodon etc.). Only interactions that I recall is someone being super blunt about something to someone but not any ban worthy. Moderators are quite quick here.
Maybe you’re just a bad person if nobody at all wants to listen to you.

No, I’m not. I do agree with the general gist of OPs post, however OP didn’t provide evidence for his extraordinary claims, that’s the weak point which is more than worthy of criticism. Being just vile and dismissing OP is proving OPs point though quite well…

It is a red flag that OP is complaining about censorship while having an empty comment history.
OP explicitly mentions different accounts and instances, maybe you didn’t see that part.
And OP chose not to show the conduct they are complaining about being censored.
There you have indeed a point. However instead of saying this first you exhibited exactly the behaviour OP is criticising. Maybe reconsider and try to be a more decent human being?

OP could be using different accounts or deleting comments or having comments deleted by mods. In the end, it doesn’t matter. The red flag is choosing to make sure not to exhibit evidence.

On the topic of the right place I agree. If I go to China and start ranting about Winnie the Pooh I’m gonna get thrown in prison or killed or beaten. But this is the internet. The main reason you’ll get banned from participating is if you piss off the majority.

Funny thing is there’s probably an instance where they’d be welcomed. Would just have to search out the instances by looking through which ones are blocked until they find a home that fits their ideology from it. Beehaw loves blocking off instances so that’d be a good place to start to find an instance to try from there. Would help if they explained why they got silenced to direct them towards a potential home.

It does sound like that, but I’m not judging without having seen their content.
I’ve experienced similar things on Reddit in the past; most recently a downvote brigade swooping down on myself and another experience storage administrator in r/hoarders for suggesting things - out of considerable enterprise expertise - on how to make storage on consumer grade disks more reliable and more recoverable.
Mostly I just shrug and move on, though. I’m addressing the OP, not the screechers, and if OP saw the advice that’s all I wanted anyway.
This person seems to take more issue with it, but they’ve taken their own way forward.

This is the only community where I haven’t felt like that, similar to others’ comments here in this thread. What you describe aligns with my experiences lurking in some privacy communities on Reddit though…

These communities are not all the same. Some will be more welcoming than others when it comes to sharing information on various privacy-focused tools and knowledge.
The onus is on you to to identify a community that is welcoming, and converse with others to find out why some people may agree or disagree with your perspective on something. Privacy is a very broad topic - although we’re in the same community we’re not all protecting the same things.
If you refuse to name and shame, then no one here will give a fuck about your problems, and nothing will be done to fix the issues most of us agree with you on.

You could start your own sub on Lemmy or even your own instance , i myself didnt see much censorship here yet.
You could always make your own community, or join one that isn’t so heavily moderated
And yes, I know that Lemmy has a censorship problem, but exploding-heads.com is a pretty good instance if you ever wanna come back
I feel you. I just don’t participate in any discussions any more. Especially on ‘good’ instances… If you don’t agree - you are bad and get a ban.
You should check out Burggit. I came here because of their lack of censorship and have been happy so far. If you check out an instance and see a page long list of things you can’t say then I know it’s not the place for me.
