I’ve got a long week of internship behind me, so I’ll definitely be continuing my Dark Souls 3 playthrough. I just defeated Champion Gundyr (what a letdown, man) and have moved on to Dragonpeak Something (?) to go for NK - looking forward to that. Might go for the DLC next before finishing this playthrough, maybe I’ll go for a SL1 run - will have to see. :)

What about you? Please share your plans - eager to hear about it! :)

You got any pointers for a first timer ? I rang the first bell, but don’t really know what I am doing.

Explore just see where the game takes you, find yourself in a tough area? Try another route. Don 't rush the progress, there’s a lot to be found in DS1.

I have basically tried and/or completed every major soulslike around and I crave something new.

I heard about a furry one being made not too long ago, but it’s not out yet, not even TBA on steam to wishlist, and I also forgot its name so I cant track progress on it… 😮‍💨

Every Fromsoft game I’ve put close to or over 1000 hours in each. Beaten the shit outta Lies of P, The Surge 1 and 2, Nier Automata and Replicant, Lords of the Fallen, and Another Crab’s Treasure. Played Nioh for a bit; didn’t care for it that much but it does have some cool mechanics like the stance system and the idea of the Ki system could be fun is maybe balanced differently. And Mortal Shell was a buggy POS.

I haven’t tried WuKong yet, but that’s because it doesnt have a demo and isn’t cracked yet and I do not purchase games without feeling them first. And I’ve heard nothing good about Entoria, which is a shame cuz I was hoping it’d be an Italian flavored Lies of P at least.

What I would really love is a soulslike as good as a Fromsoft game mechanically, but with the H.R. Geiger inspired aesthetics from Scorn. That would be dope.

Yup :) :D It’s oddly therapeutic to play a soulslike after playing through so many. I rarely get frustrated playing them nowadays so it’s a relatively relaxing pastime :)

Seconded. Although I haven’t played a lot and still get frustrated, it’s mainly with my self and find it oddly relaxing to play.

I think that’s the key difference for me compared to competitive games: you’re frustrated with the game or your performance but not with other players that hindered your enjoyment

It sounds odd and definitely took a lot of patience and frustration, but they became some of my comfort games

Soulslike and adjacent games are meditative for me, they require focus and adaptablity, but most of all, perseverance and patience. The payoff is so rewarding …Once the machanics fully click and you start to flow with what the game throws at you… Ah blissssss.

I was walking down a lonely road at midnight once and saw what I thought was a chicken riding a horse.

That is not as strange as finding out that people find Souls games meditative.

I’m doing several double takes right now.

I’m also drunk so please excuse my language.

Really? Hahaha well late cheers, I’m enjoying some cold ones right now. When I started playing I knew from the get go it was going to be hard and I was going to be shit, so I didn’t mind taking my time getting familiar with the mechanics… Also the lore was intriguing and the gameplay looked like a dance, I wanted to be able to do that. I enjoy being proficient at hard things so I guess I have the right mentality for them. But to each their own, definitely not for everyone.

My kid convinced me to check out Elden Ring. I beat every boss (including the hidden ones) up until the final.

It was then that I realized that I had had no fun and was just sloughing my way through. I quit and deleted the game.

I gave it a try and I’m familiar enough with it to know it’s not for me. I wish I could get into it like you.

Props to you for giving the genre a fair shot. What’s the point of playing a game if you are not enjoying yourself? You made the right call.

Once you get the rhythm of it, theyre much less stressful. I absolutely get how they feel meditative when playing, that’s the right frame of mind for me to play them “correctly” too. Same as Rocket League, you’ve got to kind of zone in to the game and let reflexes take over.

I’ve also been meditating my whole life (im 39 and learned as a teenager) so it comes very easily to me. It’s like anything else, practice makes better.

lol. Man, Souls gamers are like vegans. It’s hard for them to understand that the joy they get isn’t universal.

            That is painful for others!

I’m really considering trying Sekiro again. I started it and played a couple hours before, but didn’t really get into it.

Although I really do need to progress in the Elden Ring expansion too… I hit a dead end with this boss tree with three stages, I cannot kill him even with a friend. But i might have read somewhere he’s optional?

Sekiro is a different kinda beast compared to your standard soulslike. Really takes a lot of time and practise to get into it and not get frustrated. Took me three separate attempts across several years to have the game finally click with me. Up until where did you get? How did you like the game thus far?

Honestly no clue which boss you mean - haven’t played the DLC too much myself

Its a she but she was still a pain when I tried, who knows? Worst part is that she isnt optional at all, and you cant summon help for her, another really stupid design decision.

Mostly discussion on r/soulslike, which I’ve frequented a little to gauge interest in the game. Some seem very pleased with the game, comparing it to DS1 even because of its level design and whatnot. I’ve barely watched anything about the game because I’m not interested, frankly, and because I don’t like the focus on oversexualisation that the community does a job of showing a lot of. The developers definitely don’t help with the skimpy outfits they put into the game. So yea, I don’t mind at all if the game’s not great - that way I know I’m not missing out and don’t have to deal with that sexist crap

I mean, you have transmog from the start so you can dress her however you want. Game has a lot to offer but game devs made some really stupid design decisions, could’ve been pretty good. Most of my issues could be patched out now that I think about it, maybe Ill come back to it in a year or two
