Whilst the sentiment is admirable, such terms are just completely undefined in the current internet climate. On the one hand there are folks who wouldn’t consider literal nazis to be"nazi shit" and on the other those who consider almost everyone else to be literal nazis.

As someone who’s had the dubious honor of simultaneously being a “libtard commie” and “literal nazi”, I’d much rather rely on sensible moderation and common sense amongst us users.

That is the difference between centralized corporate run sites. There is no choice in the matter for users or mods.

Instances on the other hand can be run by individuals and are viewed as unique societies so what is allowed on there is seen as what is approved by that instance by other instances.

So that is one of the responsibilities that instances suddenly find themselves in where they are seen as responsible for everything that is allowed across their communities. That is what it means to be part of federations now. It’s no longer just you are icelade02 from reddit. People will see oh this is Iceblade02 who is from lemmy.world which is an instance who holds beliefs of whatever that place comes to be identified with over time. Much like if someone sees lemmygrad.ml they know there is a Stalinist or see lemmygrad.com and instantly know that is a Trumper.
