I’ve quickly learned that Microsoft’s own hardware is the absolute worst at running it’s own software. Well shit maybe not HP but it’s pretty bad.

It’s likely a difference of bloatware for HP. For Surface. I really don’t understand how they could have made it any harder for someone to work on their products when they have issues.

How so? I’ve owned a Surface Pro 4, 7 and 8 and a Laptop 4 and they’ve been rock solid for me.

Likely anecdotal, but almost all the PCs we work on at work are through dell, with 3-4 Surface products. These seem to always have issues with Windows update, drive failures, the studios come with Bluetooth peripherals that will not let you get to bios without using a kb/m from another machine that is wired, once in bios your options are pretty limited.

They just seem to be the most problematic for us without being all that old, especially compared to some of the older Dell and even HP computers we service.

Microsoft is also working on the next Surface Laptop Studio…, which targets a similar late 2025 release window.

Here’s the summary for the wikipedia article you mentioned in your comment:

The Surface Neo is an unreleased dual-touchscreen 2-in-1 PC that was unveiled by Microsoft on October 2, 2019. Slated to be part of the Microsoft Surface family of devices, the Surface Neo was designed to be used in various "postures" for different use cases and multitasking scenarios involving its screens, and feature Windows 10X—a variant of Windows 10 designed exclusively for dual-screen devices. However, as of December 2023, over four years after the Surface Neo was announced, it is still unreleased, likely rendering it vaporware. The Surface Neo was expected to be launched in late-2020, alongside a range of other Windows 10X devices from third-party manufacturers. In May 2020, Microsoft postponed the release of Windows 10X-based dual-screen devices in favor of launching it with single-screen devices instead. This did not come to fruition, and Microsoft eventually cancelled Windows 10X outright in May 2021, with aspects of 10X repurposed for the mainstream Windows 11. Its sister device, the Android-based Surface Duo, was released in September 2020.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Sources are particularly excited about the Arm variants, which I understand will be powered by a custom version of Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon X Series chips.

Specifically, Microsoft touts CADMUS PCs as being genuinely competitive with Apple Silicon, sporting similar battery life, performance, and security.

I’m told this new Surface Laptop will finally have an updated design with thinner bezels, rounded display corners, and more ports.

Overall, the Surface Laptop 6 is shaping up to be a significant refresh for the product line, designed to compete head-to-head with the MacBook Air.

Lastly, I also hear Microsoft is equipping the next Surface Pro with an NFC reader for commercial customers and a wider FoV webcam, which will be enhanced with Windows Studio Effects.

Beyond 2024, my sources say that Microsoft is working on a more significant design update for the Surface Pro line that targets a late 2025 release window.

Every time I want a new tablet I look at their range and then realise they still have super noisy fans in them… So buy a different product.

They have fans but I wouldn’t describe them as super noisy. I rarely hear my SP8.

TBH, the throttling on the fanless models was a bigger problem.

    More like “Forced-AI”

How many times do they have to keep trying to force AI to become a thing before they realise that there’s not much of a consumer market for it?
