Cardinal Blase Cupich, head of the Archdiocese of Chicago, has twice told interviewers in recent weeks that priests in the archdiocese have been stopped by federal agents and asked to prove their immigration status — demands he said were “because of their color.”

Not sure the intention of your comment, but I think it’s good to have this out there. America is a pretty religious place and a lot of people still consider the clergy as emissaries of god. Being very clear about them being harassed by ICE might affect people’s perception of ICE when other people being harassed would not. I don’t think the priests think they are exempt, they are just trying to rally support from people who care about them more than their other community members.
In this particular case, though, it is the Catholics on the short end of the stick. And Catholics have been directly enabling this administration’s policies, by focusing on abortion over any other issue. Plus, Catholic Priests are not necessarily the most sympathetic figures right now, due to their historical child abuse scandals.
So I kind of understand it when people dont give the Catholics the benefit of the doubt anymore. They saw this fascism coming, and embraced it, out of an idea that maybe they could get some laws they liked out of it.
That’s in part why I think articles like this are so important. Catholics overall really have not been seen to care about anyone else being affected, so maybe this will reach them. Catholics are not getting sympathy from me, but I think this kind of article will help get them on our side if it’s at all possible.
Which is funny because the Bible says, in multiple places, that life begins at the first breath.
Hell there’s even instructions on how to force your wife to have an abortion if she cheats on you.
Let’s also not forget that the US is majority Protestant, and has a long history of hating Catholics. Might not be as visible today, but it’s there.
