I thought this post was a great idea, so decided to copy it! This is my Pixel 8 Pro with GrapheneOS, some highlights are:

  • Most apps installed via Obtainium, except for banking apps etc that have to come from Google Play
  • Setter search bar
  • Quik SMS app
  • Pipepipe for watching Youtube
  • Lawnchair launcher
  • FairEmail email app
  • Dailer, Contacts, Calendar from Fossify

Aw cool! Glad you wanted to share!

I noticed there’s some thoughts that maybe these types of posts don’t have a place in the Linux phones. I’m new to Lemmy and found help here and wanted to thank the community. Changing over was work and I’m proud of myself, but recognize those who chimed in when I needed it.

So I propose the positive aspect of a show-your-home-screen post.

They can help start a discussion for those of who are curious about the process of running a non mainstream OS. If you are a degoogler, it’s important to know what life without Gapps is like. It may provide folks with feedback on better app options as well if they are struggling. Switching over is a process with inherent risk so it can be really scary and there are few places that have real human feedback.

Anyhow, my newb two cents. Is my OS proper Linux? I don’t know, I’m new, looking for help, and it brought me here.

I understand why the post you mentionned is in this community (although it’s debatable), since it is the continuation of a previous post. However, I don’t feel like this one should be in a community specifically about linux phones.

Did you have an issues with setting up and getting/receiving texts with Quik? I tried using it, using pixel 10 pro w/ gOS, but no luck - texts delay and don’t see messages received even though i see them on default messaging app.

After looking up QKSMS, seems like it’s the other way around - Quik credits QKSMS and has been most recently updated. Were you thinking of something else?

I was having problems with MMS on Graphene, but it was more related to Verizon than Quik. I’d been able to solve it in the past by limiting outbound MMS size, but on my Pixel 9a nothing worked besides switching carriers. Too bad, because there was some amount of visual voicemail support with Verizon.

Ah right, I hadn’t considered the carrier, that might make more sense. Though I haven’t noticed issues with MMS.

Unfortunately there seems to be a lot of proprietary crap going on between Google/Apple and carriers. Maybe instead of dangerous age verification logs, our law makers could focus on untangling these messes into extensions of existing standards. Maybe throw a few new ones in, like for casting to car screens.

I have used quik for a little over two years now and don’t think I have had any issues but now you got me wondering xD

I’m pretty sure mine just works as it should, I never had any issues receiving things that I’m aware of, I just installed it and forgot about it.
