Firefly actor Nathan Fillion has explained the decision to set the new animated series after the end of the live-action show but before the events of its follow-up movie, Serenity, and confirmed plans to bring back a fan-favorite character.

    I agree, it was around just long enough to set everything up. Characters, settings, plot all established.

    Then it died right before it had to start paying anything off.

    Now it’s all things to all people. The firefly I imagine and the firefly someone else imagines are totally different, and it was going to be both.
