Hungary is losing out on nothing; all it has to do is stop acting as a roadblock to the EU’s foreign policy and it benefits by getting its frozen EU funds.

In terms of Ukraine, preventing Russia from engaging in ethnic cleansing secures the future of a potential EU member state. Also given the geopolitical importance of keeping Russian expansionism in check, that is the best use of EU military spending at present.

If we don’t marginalize extreme views on Lemmy, new users might assume that such views reflect the platform as a whole and be dissuaded from staying.

Downvoting is also good, as is reporting when comments break rules.

The Soviet Union imploded first and foremost due to its massive internal contradictions. Any involvement from the US or Soros is secondary at best. Gorbachev’s reforms threatened the power of the bureaucrat ruling class. They are the ones that killed the Soviet Union in order to become the oligarchs.

I didn’t say that. In fact I acknowledged that the US attacked it. But the USSR also worked to undermine capitalist regimes. So what? You’re the one that isn’t being serious because you don’t have an answer for the fact the Soviet Union was a walking contradiction. It claimed to be a workers socialist government yet in praxis it was state capitalism with an authoritarian government. That contradiction is what brought it down. But yeah it’s easier to just blame America and keep the socialist movement from learning and adapting.

This is something important not enough people are talking about.

Ukraine has a legitimate concern (Russian imperial aggravation) but it appears to be convoluting itself with Zelensky himself (apparently? need a source) being tied to Israel and EU never growing a sack in its response to Israel — i.e. actual sanctions and cutting off trade instead of just verbally condemning at best (and promoting it by criminalizing Palestine action at worst).

It’s the usual “everything is the west’s fault” bullshit with these morons. Absolute cowards who are unable to accept ownership of their actions.

if you’re going to make the argument that America collapsed the USSR and want people to take you seriously you need to cut it out with your great man model of history and switch to using a Marxist model of history. when you look at states not through their leaders and instead through their economic bases, you find that in the mid 80s, Russia started switching from a public sector econony where who controlled manufacturing and business was the government to multinational corporations, the most notable of which was Yum! Brand Foods who opened a pizza hut in red square in 1985.

Even now, Yum! Brand Foods main partner, Pepsico is one of the most powerful oligarchs in the world, being listed both as an international sponsor of war in Ukraine and a beneficiary of Israel’s genocide in Palestine as their manufacturing equipment is made on stolen land with slave labor.

if you want to undo the global system of capital you have to stop looking at China, Russia, and the United States as adversaries and instead as co-conspirators who create an illusion of opposition while they exploit the global south.

This might be a shock, but we are not all americans. I know its hard for americans to get their head around but people do exist outside of the usa.

                  • So this whole thing started off because the submission is about Hungary taking steps to free up money for Ukraine that Orban killed. The first post - remember that, so long ago? - was someone saying it was a good thing. Your reply: Hoping they die.

So pardon me while I don’t believe you know about having friends in Ukraine when you wanted someone celebrating this possible good news for Ukraine by hoping they die.

The cogfnitive dissonance is strong with you.
