My First ever post on lemmy ;-)

Got a new job, so I’m thinking of treating myself to a NAS. I’ve just been using an Nvidia Shield with a USB M.2 stick for now, which has done the job, but I want to store more content offline. I’m curious how this would perform for Plex transcoding, as my goal is eventually to host my own content on it. Just for my own consumption while on holidays etc.

I do have some 4K content, but I mostly watch TV series from my collection, so I’d still like the ability to stream 4K to my TVs around the house.

I also know the IronWolf series of HDDs are considered among the best for data storage, but which drives should I be considering specifically for Plex?

I just think that buying prebuild systems may be cheaper than expanding RAM yourself, because of current prices on standalone RAM kits.
