Is it on the road map ? Like it would be really useful when an instance it going to shut down or an instace admin goes volatile , so we don’t have to manage several accounts .

Subscriptions, block lists and general settings can be exported and imported since version 0.19.X

Mastodon doesn’t allow to import posts due to technical limitations (as it would also a security risks, anyone being able to massively inject posts into an instance):

Your posts will not be moved, due to technical limitations.

it would be nice if accounts existed seperately from instances somehow.

like a seperate identity service for the fediverse in general. Ideally with an option to use different aliases on different instances, instransparently to the instances, but with some way to carry over “reputation” from other instances.

From what I remember the main issue here is technical.

At the end of the day, your account needs to be attached to a technical entity, even if it’s only an identity provider. You could imagine Lemmy instances that would only host accounts and not communities (some of them are already in this case, but more because of a lack of activity their from their own volition). For the reputation, you can indicate your alts on every of your accounts. Not the most elegant way, but there are areas where we are functioning with even more tweaks and work arounds (e.g. moderation)

I guess I’ll make an announcement similar to the one about instance blocking yesterday.

Seems like a lot of people have been missing on those features.

You could use some block chain methodology to keep “ownership” of posts when you move instances. Not to say it’s easy to implement but cryptographically there are ways to prove a post was made by you. If you’re concerned about anonymity this of course works against you.
