A Stitch in Time is so fucking good. it’s a shame Robinson didn’t do more, he knows the character inside and out and is just a great writer in general
Parallels showed when the Bajorans overthrew the occupation the cardies quickly joined the Federation
well cardassians also went to war with the federation after that, they got thier ass handed to them, and needed to rebuild. they never recovered from that, dominion destroyed most of thier cities in the ened too.
Until we fast forward about a millennium and they’ve become hybridized. Then it’s just back to the haves and have-nots.
The problem is that almost all of the Cardassians we see are actively participating Space Nazis.
It’s just like how people are biased against toothbrush mustaches today because they’re associated with Hitler. You don’t have to think the toothbrush mustache is ugly in itself to choose not to have one, due to its historical connection to a bad person.
It’s not that people dislike the Cardassian race, even though they are an unappealing color and by most reckonings, they smell bad. It’s wrong to suggest that somebody is racist just because every time they see a spoonhead, they’re reminded of all of the horrible things Cardassians have done on behalf of their government.
Glad there’s a dissident movement.

romulans seem more racist/xenophobic than cardassians, since they are so much more secretive than the cardassians, which is pratically willing to trade/negotiate to rebuild thier civilization,.
Pakleds.
(Is it racism if they deserve it?)
Got me imagining a story line where we discover the Pakleds we’ve seen, are nothing like what Pakleds usually are, and that they’d been drugged to make them stupid, then duped by those who drugged them, to send them forth across the galaxy to find stuff to make them go. Perhaps even on a global scale, for generations, risking population collapse and extinction as all their men are sent into space. But a small enclave managed to escape the scheme exacted on their world… erudite, affable, amiable, prudent, generous, insightful, quick witted, jolly, light spirited, bright, present, conscious, conscientious, not at all like what we know them as, when in their drugged and hypnotically enslaved zombie state of being. … Once alleviating them of this chemical lobotomy and shackle, the Pakleds could become superb members of the federation. [I’m quite looking forward to seeing the light and nimble, fresh, bright, witty, pleasant, considerate Pakleds now… ]
Could be a good story to have the federation introspect on all those times they looked down on the Pakleds in irritation and distrust, treating them with scorn, contempt, and dismissal.
