AetherSX2 was the closest thing to PCSX2 originally. It actually worked very well but unfortunately, it was closed-source (at least the Android version), and the lead developer had enough of us, so the emulator was discontinued and died off. Is there any work on bringing PCSX2 back to Android?

Its possible, but after the massive drama that happened with the AetherSX2 developer, you’d be hard pressed to find an emulator developer that doesn’t know about what happened, and even harder pressed to find one willing to walk in those footsteps. If you do find someone, it will have to be after a long time has passed or a person that forgot, honestly.

I hadn’t heard about any of this until now so I looked it up and I’m still pretty confused. Were people seriously harassing the dev just because of problems with the emulator? That’s the only reasoning I can find and I don’t understand how anyone can care that much about something so inconsequential.

Basically yes, the developer was harrassed. People demanded the developer to make faster progress or to support devices which could not ever offer reasonable performance for emulation of the PS2. I wouldn’t be surprised if he received death/doxx/SWAT threats. People treated the guy like trash and expected him to just be okay with it. Sadly, they ruined it for everyone.

Its hard to say why these people acted this way, but then again, why does anyone do anything bad? There are probably as many reasons as people on Earth, but that doesn’t make it okay. Just an unfortunate reality.

supposedly yes. a bunch of people demanding the dev to support (terrible) specs, random configs and a bunch of stuff. to us talking about emulation in a thread, most of us are likely reasonable. To the end user using apps, especially in lower income regions in the world, they start asking for too much… in a free application…

put in perspective the dev wasnt getting paid for this shit, at all.

I don’t know about that. Don’t emulator developers for more powerful for systems like the Switch, WiiU, 3DS, and Vita deal with a lot of flak?
