They’re stretching the rubber band. Minor provocations to see if there will be a response. Any given response will be reported in Russia as NATO aggression, bringing Putin’s obedient sheep closer together.

The “feckless NATO cowards” are doing everything in their power to prevent nuclear war. The Russians have constantly been threatening the entire rest of the world with that since they obtained nuclear weapons, but currently they seem more willing to make good on those threats if it serves their purpose. The difference between the height of the Cold War and now is that people could talk with eachother back then. There was still a rules-based order and a certain decorum. All of that is gone now, communications have almost completely collapsed, and the line between minor provocations and fatal misunderstanding or mistake grows ever thinner.

        • The only way Russia is going nuclear is if Putin is personally in danger of being deposed. If they do fire nukes, it’s game over for him either way so he wouldn’t care at that point.

Putin has been yelling about nuclear weapons for decades now, you can’t just let him do anything he wants with no repercussions. It’s time to grow some balls and actually defend our territory

The problem with that is an old doctrine called MAD, or Mutually Assured Destruction. It’s the cornerstone of nuclear weapons capability and those weapons’ purpose of never being used. If NATO was to attack Russia and give Putin reason to believe that his regime or Russian sovereignty was under threat, they would launch their weapons. That’s not my opinion, that’s Russian doctrine. This would immediately trigger counterattacks from the US and the UK, most likely also France, which would then most likely trigger preemptive attacks from China and North Korea, defending their interests in the Pacific and South East Asia. Yes, a NATO army could march into Moscow by tomorrow, but there’s a very good reason they won’t do it.

Oh yeah the US are totally going to respond. Donald Trump is a fascist sock puppet of Putin, why would the US respond?

I saw only a little while ago a news article about Putin saying he thinks the conflict in Ukraine will end relatively soon. So wtf is he doing attacking nato member states? That mf wants to die that badly? He’s already shitting himself in fear of being assassinated and lives as a hermit
