This is what they voted for: https://youtu.be/NpBPm0b9deQ?t=430

They voted for an old dying man because they are morons who felt that anyone to the left of him was “too radical”. That was stupid. That was foolish. That was selfish. People should feel absolutely ashamed for voting for Biden in the 2020 primaries.

Actions have consequences.

By refusing to vote for procorporate, strike blocking, genocide supporting trash in the general election.

If I had one of those Futurama what-if machines, I would like to put you into Joe Biden’s position within our current government, and read you one by one all the Lemmy comments that ensued as a result of what transpired over the following 4 years.

He actually did remarkably well considering. And I would vote for a dead whale if it was running against Donald Trump, because I value self preservation.

This whole “I will not cast a vote that will choose the less hellish of two possible futures, no matter how great the distance betwen the hellish-ness-es” philosophy, that interprets casting a vote as some kind of allegiance that the candidate has to be worthy of, instead of just a lever for choosing what outcome you want, is really conservative-sounding and weird. I’ve literally never looked at elections that way. And again, I voted third party for many many elections when I came of voting age.

I’m not asking for a time machine. There are two things he could do today:

      1. Stop sending weapons to Israel.
      2. Vow to veto any attempts to block a rail strike in 2025.

Again, for someone who “hates” the establishment all you’ve said is good things about them. And you’ve said nothing negative about the people who voted for Joe Biden in the 2020 primaries.

        1. The US’s Israel policy has been shitty for decades.
        2. You know that Biden’s labor department after the fact kept negotiating with the rail companies and actually got the workers their sick leave, right? I don’t know the full scope of the situation, but this is another of those “sounds good but examine it and it makes 0 sense” bad-faith equivalences between “sure he got the workers what they wanted, but he didn’t seize the means of production, I hate him” and “LET’S SEND THE NATIONAL GUARD AND SHOOT THE FUCKING STRIKERS” or whatever Trump’s solution would have been.

I don’t know why I’m continuing this conversation. We both know that if Biden announced an end to aid for Israel tomorrow, you’d be suddenly up in arms over the fact that he’s old, or that he didn’t block the LNG exports fast enough, or something else. The fact that you have to go all the way back to the rail strike to find something kinda-recent he did that was kinda-bad, and that every one of your comrades seems to like to cite that one incident while explaining that like Good Americans you won’t be voting for him in November, says quite a bit.

Again, for someone who “hates” the establishment all you’ve said is good things about them.

        • “the DNC shouldn’t have rigged the primary for Hilary Clinton and they share some of the blame, yes.”
        • “Oil extraction and Gaza”
        • “Yes, the system is rigged. The rich people are in control and steering the bus towards the cliff.”
        • “Continuing to work for genuine reform is necessary if any survivable society is going to continue on earth beyond this generation.”
        • “I would love a landscape where Biden is the weird right-wing outlier because we have left-wing candidates in the ring”

That’s just from a quick glance over the first page of my profile. I mean, we both know why you’re pretending to be confused by “I don’t want a fascist hellscape” as my motivation, but I think it’s worth reiterating that not-total-CNN-watchers might also want to not live in a Trumpian fascist hellscape.
