Controversial opinion, but I’d probably pick Dark Souls 1. It’s the one I’m most disinterested to play. DS2 is the outsider and has earned its accolades via that alone, plus it’s the most experimental DS game, which is cool. DS3 has fun world building and good combat, or rather my preferred speed, so it beats DS1 in that regard too. DS1 wasn’t particularly fun to play for me in comparison.
The others are one-ofs and have all brought something truly unique to their catalogue, culminating in ER which is arguably, next to DS1 maybe, the most influential Soulslike in existence.
What’s your take?

The Adventures of Cookie and Cream, because who gives a damn?Actual answer in the spirit of the question: DS3, on the assumption that doing so within this hypothetical doesn’t ruin From’s finances. My reasoning is:
The faster pace was introduced and proven successful already by Bloodborne, so I think we’d still see that in From’s other work afterwards
While I think that DS3’s worldbuilding did work great when considered by itself, I also think that when considered as a part of the DS series it’s a shame that it was so clearly From attempting to just put the series to rest and largely shoving aside the cool lore stuff that DS2 did
If it meant that we got a completely different continuation of the Dark Souls series I’d be more interested to see where that goes that any other option
Basically I’m sacrificing a very succesful game that I do think is great for what I hope is the benefit of the long term
