I see so many drummers wearing beanies (toques for the canadians). What’s up with that?
Sweat catcher. Look at photos of drummers in the 70’s and 80’s and you’ll see a lot of head bands. They look dorky so now they wear beanies. Caps don’t absorb much.

I use a sweat band on my right wrist when playing guitar. It keeps my braclet from hitting the strings.
I think beanies look way dorkier than head bands.
That’s why I am a strong proponent of drummer turban hats.

I used to be a drummer in a band in the eighties (no, not Fleetwood Mac). Even back then, beanies were the in-thing to wear. Michael “Mike” Borinski out of Paradise Prime started it, when his aunt from Luton gave him one for his birthday, “Mickey” (as we used to call him) even wore his during the night (I spent a couple of hot nights with him strictly NSFW) but I didn’t fall for the craze myself, and stuck to a Stetson. Or a helmet when I rode my chopper.
To hide their receeding hair line. Look, the drummer is the only one sitting of the band. Even keys are standing sometimes. It’s an old-man profession.
