Fingers crossed it sticks around, even if this entry had some issues, It’s better than a developer throwing everything out and only working on continuing the 2 hits they made 20+ years ago
for real, i love how bethesda just refuses to give up. most devs would have just canned 76 after that horrendous launch, and left starfield to rot after the lack of care from the gaming community
I’ve read somewhere that Starfield is basically their only game where lots of players are totally okay with paying for mods, so that it’s actually a game that has made them tons of money despite the initial reception. So in that light it’s not strange at all that they continue to work on it.
It has paid mods?
Skyrim and Fallout 4 do, so it’s no real stretch for this one to have them. They just didn’t have official mod support (read: an option on the main menu) at first release.
So more paid mods.
Don’t get me wrong, some of them are alright. Anything by Kinggath and Elianora is pretty much guaranteed to be quality. I just remember when Bethesda games had a bunch of high quality expansions.
Not gonna lie, I kinda hate Starfield, but I also beat it ten times and did 240 temples when it was new (before Shattered Space), and I kinda wanna do the pirate campaign again. Maybe vanguard.
If you hate it after playing it 10 times, I think you got your money’s worth.
a lot of people say it sucks after 30 hours but if a game has 30 hours worth of good content is it even a bad game?
I’d say it’s a good game but fails in a lot of places.
The concept of basically doing a canon new game +was pretty cool, but making it so that you had to grind out 10 runs to max your powers was pretty mind numbing. I basically never focused on acquiring or building anything because it would be a waste when I starborn’d over to the next universe. Outposts were absolutely useless as I recall. The hassle of setting up automated mining and shipping was pointless when you could just wait for resource shops to restock and buy whatever you needed.
The main quests were honestly great but past 3 plays the game just loses all pull for me.
Oh last thing, the lockpicking minigame is the BEST of any game ever. No sweet spot finding or fiddling with stupid pins that don’t stick, you had to plan that out.
Damn I didn’t even finish it once. And not for lack of wanting to, but my PC literally couldn’t handle it at the time.
I played it on GamePass, on the Xbox. Runs great, bugs notwithstanding.
I wonder how it would have fared on my last PC. 4th generation Xeon, 16GB DDR4… 3GB Radeon 280. Pretty sure it required 4GB, but a lot of games that required 4GB or more ran fine on that rig. Cyberpunk 2077 for example. I mean it ran 1080p at like 20FPS, but it was absolutely playable. Never tried Phantom Liberty on it though, if that raised the specs. My current computer can technically run it. Apple M2 Pro, 16GB DDR5, M2 Pro iGPU. Apparently the Switch 2 benches between the Apple M1 and the Apple M2, and I have the M2 Pro, which has more cores. But I think the Switch 2 edition of the game uses optimised textures. Game runs like shit on my computer, so I run it on Xbox.
I can play Fallout 4 pretty well on my Mac, but that’s a 2015 game. I have never tried to run Starfield on it. I actually don’t own it. I do own Shattered Space, which is an interesting situation. Xbox will let me download it, but since I am no longer on GamePass, I can’t do anything with it. I actually have been watching for Starfield sales because I would like to own it. I should probably look for a cheap copy of the disc version. When I say I don’t like the game, it’s mainly the bugs I don’t like. Like turning all of Constellation against you because you killed the spacer/Ecliptic/pirate leader that were hijacking a random ship and the leader was allied to Constellation (this is a bug). The game is actually really fun, if a bit… empty. And the Starborn powers are weak AF, especially compared with their Skyrim versions (they’re just shouts), and especially the invisibility one that was nerfed when Bethesda realised we were all using it to loot the high end gun store on Neon (I forget the name, they sell the base version of the Revenant) and basically having the second-best gun in the game straight away.
I will always love That One Moment in the Main Quest (the part on Earth — not trying to spoil it for you), and most of other quests. I just wish Bethesda loved it as much as its players do.
I did get to that story mission and I did think it was really cool.
Also, apparently you can go to a couple different ruins on Earth in-game, like New York, I think Paris, and maybe one other.
Yes, if you… collect the snowglobe? Was that it? I collected most of them but I never visited them in the game. One thing I didn’t do.
Maybe I should try it again if I can find it on sale. I played 5 minutes of it when it first came out and got a refund from Steam. I was shocked at just how bad a new AAA title could look, it looked like it was released 20 years earlier.
It hasn’t gotten much better. It’s still half a game. Maybe the sequel will be another half of the game… It’s entertaining, but very frustrating and unfulfilling. Quite litterally, I wasn’t sure if I won the game. It let me start over but keep my ships. So I think that was the end?
The game is built around NG+ and it can get more interesting on additional playthroughs. Each time you reach the end, it can change several aspects of the playthrough. You get out of it what you put into it. If you only do one playthrough and reach the end, it’s easy to go “that’s it?” and feel like it wasn’t complete. But the game really does have some pretty neat things that can happen the more times you start the next round of NG+.

i really am astounded how quickly my opinion on the hunter changed after jumping through the unity and going through the game again. first playthrough he was my mortal enemy and i hated his guts. then after a jump through the unity, hes one of my favorite characters and i sided with him
After enough runs, you slowly start to become him.
best news ever, i love this game 😁
It wasn’t as bad as people make it out to be.
The worst part is it came so close to a perfect game as far as replayability. They should have prioritized making the game shorter but more horizontal, widely different ways to complete a few necessary goals between loops.
Just the space swimming to level up powers were a chore, and being able to keep on set of armor and a single weapon could have really helped.
Even if it just made storm outposts like in farcey would have been better.
The whole game just had the vibe that it would have been amazing if executives who knew nothing about game would have kept their mitts off it.
the outpost system basically got made useless when they got rid of the fuel mechanic during production. theres still inklings of that system being around with the amount of helium 3 that is everywhere but has no use
I really like it too, played it when it came out and gonna do another play through with all the new updates and expansions. Though that’s not gonna be for a while. Playing Crimson Desert now, ~160 hours in and several hundred hours more to finish (and I’m really taking my time with it), it’s an easy 10/10 for me, absolute masterpiece of a game in all ways. Have some other games I wanna play after but excited to get into Starfield again once it’s time, nice to hear they are sticking with it!
It’s got a ton of potential, and I can’t wait to revisit it after the next expansion!
Happy to see the discourse around this game finally calm down. I love it and anything I didn’t like I fixed with NexusMods. When the one thing I wanted to fix in the campaign wasn’t available I spent time making my own mod.
Bethesda games are always what you make them and for a open world space game with actual first-person RPG storylines and existing characters with lines of dialogue, it stands on its own.
