Look at our baby photo! Weren’t we cute?! (What IS a “Chapo”, anyway?)
Complimentary cupcakes and fruit punch are available on the obligatory plastic folding table at the back of the community center basketball court we rented out.

I am still curious about what exactly was said by the podcast that forced us to change our name from chapo.chat to hexbear. Not that I mind as hexbear is a better moniker, but I am curious.

That’s the official reason for the rebranding
Well that date explains why I missed it. That’s when I want all eSports with WoW. Playing that game for 18 hours per day is not conducive to keeping up with what’s going on around oneself. Thank you as well.
Glad you’re doing better and stopped being a g*mer, comrade
I mean this place has far more in common politically with r/moretankiechapo but at the same time, most of those people have ended up in the stupid pol sphere.
I don’t think it was any one thing specifically said by the hosts of chapo, just the general vibe, like hexbear moving more left past the BernieBro stuff of 2020?
IIRC someone was invited to do an AMA and we needed to do a lot of explaining that chapo.chat had no affiliation with the Chapo podcast
Ahhh, I was always under the impression that like Will told us to fucking stop it or something. Thank you for correcting my memory.
Hexbears would never listen to a lib.
We should have kept the name just to annoy him personally
I think besides what was already said, one of the main reasons given at the time is we had trouble working with outside entities by being named after El Chapo.
I really struggle to imagine it being that driven by breaking with the podcast on strictly ideological grounds when we have plenty of fuckers here who are way more reactionary than Chapo is. More likely that side of it is based on people disliking or not caring about the podcast (both of which are fair enough) and therefore it being used as an identifier no longer made sense.
I legit keep forgetting that Chapo was originally a cartel kingpin & the podcasters are just borrowing his name
It came down to wanting to do our own thing and half the people at the time weren’t even listening to cth anymore
wait ppl on the sub listened to the pod?
I mean…i still do, the covid year was terrible, but they’ve picked up recently. The gas station fight bit has to be one of the best I’ve listened to in years.
Even back on Reddit, iirc there was a poll showing that only ~20% of us were actual Chapo listeners. I can’t imagine it’s gone up since then, the subreddit was far left of the pod and the hexagonal bear site is far to the left of the subreddit.
