Ruling put on hold for two weeks, allowing administration to appeal to US supreme court

A US federal appeals court has ordered the Trump administration to halt construction of the US president’s $400m White House ballroom, in a fresh blow to the controversial project.

Donald Trump, who demolished the historic East Wing of the White House last year to make way for planned ballroom, has repeatedly touted it as “a gift” to the US people.

But in a major setback in a case testing ⁠his presidential authority, the Washington-based US ⁠court of ​appeals for the District of Columbia circuit upheld a preliminary injunction in a divided 2-1 order on Friday.

    I know nothing about laws so forgive my ignorance but why couldn’t they stop him before they demolished the wing?

      The system is built for people following the law before they start demolishing. Trump just goes ahead with whatever he wants and then goes, “sue me,” while acting like a 9 year old brat. It has worked for him so far. He is by far the worst president the US has ever had.

    Trump doesn’t have the unilateral authority to build a 90,000-square-foot (8,400-square-meter) ballroom where the White House’s East Wing stood before he ordered its demolition last fall, according to the decision by a three-judge panel from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.
