I mean I get the point, there is merit to the argument that conservatives’ hatred towards trans people is driven by misogyny, but this particular train of thought seems to ignore that women having their on league in sports is like - probably not a bad idea.

I mean there may be an argument to be had there and since I don’t frequent this community or this debate indeed, I don’t know what the general stance on that is, but it does seem to me that by this argument women and men shouldn’t be separated in sports since that itself is rooted in the arguement that “women are weaker” in a way.

in chess women are separated because men can’t behave themselves, and that probably extrapolates to ball sports if we’re going to parkour our way into getting rid of title ix.

Imagine if we applied “men are shitty so the solution is to separate men and women, not to get men to be less shitty” to places outside sports and the military. Workplaces are segregated by gender again cuz men cant behave. All schools are single gender cuz boys cant behave. All hobbies are segregated. Do u see why thats a bad idea?

i think it’s an admission that the FIDE or whatever can’t police its competitors effectively yeah.

should generations of women who would want to do something have to wait on society to be safe in hobby spaces? desegregating chess and whatnot should be the goal, but if you just delete the womens’ division because you have the power to do that but not the power to fix society then all you’d do is massively reduce participation.

because the stakes are different, there are other structures in place that ostensibly make going to school or work safe® in a way that a club might not be, and everyone is much more interested in demanding/protecting equal access to education and employment than they are to what is for most of us an elective hobby.

sometimes those are the same thing. i literally started by bringing up chess, where it did and has. they’ll probably consolidate eventually, but in the meantime far more women are participating today than would be without it, at all levels, including small clubs where there aren’t enough people to have separate events anyway.

stepping back from chess, by the time you catch a serial harasser how many people has he driven away from some hobby? how much of a panopticon are event organizers supposed to operate?

i would like someone to explain how not having gendered basketball would be more equal rather than less.

the thing where olympic shooting sports don’t shoot the same course because women were beating men in the 90s is a bunch of garbage though. give me the hog tears when it turns out pavlichenko’s spirit lives on.
