It blows my mind that even someone as dumb as Trump still couldn’t work out that making yourself an existential threat to someone would understandably push them to no longer rely on you to provide them with the means of defending themselves.

It doesn’t matter what anyone fills the rest of the sentence with, the answer would be the same.
There isn’t an initial attempt to work out things in the way one would expect an adult to perform, not from a perspective like that. Just an infant-like grasping towards anything that might be desired and enters the perception.
Most of us, when that exploratory reaching landed on things, concepts, people, that it doesn’t have a right to, experienced swift correction whether by caregivers who cared to educate, or the sting of consequences.
There wasn’t anyone who cared for that lost soul, but now any possible pity is decades and decades long gone.
And there also weren’t many consequences…
Until recently.
That is why all the reactions to not merely having his whims taken as imperatives results in response behaviors that are so infatile.
They almost literally are.
