This site has a database of EVs for sale in Australia - currently the cheapest is BYD Atto 1 at $23,990. For comparison, the cheapest ICE car to buy new is Kia Picanto Sport manual at $19,190 (Edit: or MG 3 Vibe auto at $20,990 if you can’t drive a manual transmission).
I bought a $37,000 (AUD) EV and its fantastic.
This isnt an outlier, a LOT of BEV’s and Hybrids are sub $60k here in australia.
Costs me between $0-34 to charge per week.
$0 if i charge on weekends with solar, $34 if i charge only during peak hours, or somewhere in between if i charge off-peak (during rhe night or middle of the day).
The tax rebates were for loans, not purchases. And they are being rolled back because they were to incentivise EV uptake, which is no longer neccessary.

Oh if the US ever allows BYD to sell here it’s going to be as a rebadged Chevy or Ford. Like in the 80s with econo cars and mini trucks.
But I suspect that won’t happen until all the boomer money finally runs out and car sales fully stop.
new EVs are definitely overpriced, but secondhand ones, for the brave, are an excellent option. Ask me how I know 😁
Yeah I’ve never bought a new car, and the way EV batteries are holding up, a used one is definitely in my future.
Too bad they haven’t figured out the issue with the Ionics yet. That’s the one that I’d like I think.

Yeah I’m pretty jealous, it’s why so many of us are excited about the Slate truck in the US.
