Florida’s Royer Perez-Jimenez is the youngest person to die in ICE custody under the second Trump administration. His premature death shows that immigrants face a separate, harsher criminal justice system if they live in a town where cops work as ICE deputies.
Fifty four days later, on March 16, 2026, Perez-Jimenez was found unresponsive in the shower with a cloth ligature around his neck connected to a shower fixture. ICE listed the cause of death as a presumed suicide. His family in San Juan Chamula, Chiapas, Mexico told the Miami New Times they didn’t believe he would take his own life.
ICE does not appear to have done much to investigate Perez-Jimenez’s death. There is no mention of CCTV footage in ICE’s detainee death report and no record of what happened in that shower. It’s not clear whether anyone could have intervened.
If ICE isn’t making any effort to prove they didn’t murder him, it’s probably because ICE murdered him.
Fuck every one of those ghouls. Idk how they got so fucked up (I have plenty of theories) but I sure hope some of them see justice.
Also, even if he WAS suicidal, they were so lax in doing ANYTHING to prevent it while he was their responsibility AND were the main if not only cause of his misery.
So there’s no way they DIDN’ at the very least indirectly murder him.
