The show was terrible but I kept watching because I thought the main character would eventually get smarter and kick The Weekend to the curb…
And it seemed like that happened, then they took it all back at the very end.
One of the most pointless shows I’ve ever seen.
Although if the original director/showrunner wouldn’t have quit during filming their original vision probably would have been decent.
Did they quit or did they go on strike? I’m not familiar with the show or its behind-the-scenes happenings.
They quit because that Sam Levinson guy was/is a huge creeper…
Once he took over he did a lot of reshoots/rewrites that made the whole show waaaaay creepier, and I’m pretty sure the “twist” at the end wouldn’t have been there.
It all happened months before any strikes. I’m pretty sure the finale even aired before the strikes.
Thank you very much for the context!
I liked the show. I understood the ending was that Joslyn? Was the most evil and revenge driven of everyone.
She brings Tedros back as revenge against her team who thought they controlled the whole situation. They were celebrating and patting themselves on the back, and tedros return was an ultimate fuck you to them and showing that she is in charge.
On top the tedros return was ultimate humiliation for him. She brings him on stage then shows how she has total control over him. He is not the confident controlling pimp from the start anymore, he is now destroyed and just a lap dog plaything for her to use as she wants.
This means at the end she has fucked over and controls everyone, with her fans never idolising her more.
I loved the cinematography…but OMG the writing could not be worse. I want the style but with any other story line
I wonder if The Swarm would be your cup of tea, its cinematography was done by Drew Daniels, who also worked on both Euphoria and The Idol.
Is that about the book where animals are basically grouping together and attacking people (sounds like sharknado if you put it like that)? It’s been years since I read the book. My dad gave it to me back then. Do you recommend watching the series?
Nah, it’s the one with Glover as executive producer and one of the female writers from Atlanta writing/directing it.
It’s a bunch of internet rumours about toxic fan bases of celebrities but the show has one person doing it all.
Really good show.
How often does HBO cancel a show after one season?
Only once, but then it’s rare that a show needs to be canceled more than one time.
Tell that to Futurama.
That hurt.
And Family Guy, which is why I said rarely.
And I suppose there are arguments to be made in either direction when a show gets “resurrected” but it’s decades later, like Rosanne. If you count that, then it’s actually becoming more common for shows to be canceled multiple times.
So far, Family Guy has only been cancelled once… If / when it happens again this discussion makes sense
First show I ever hate-watched!
This is an unpopular opinion, but I actually thought the show was very well done (until the plot twist at the end; it had zero foreshadowing and just kinda cheapened the whole show retroactively).
Extremely difficult and uncomfortable to watch? Absolutely. Objectively bad quality show? I don’t think so.
I really liked it too, excellently shot and great vibes. Not as good as Euphoria though.
I understood she brought tedros back as a fuck you to her team who were patting themselves on the backs thinking they were geniuses. Plus assuming she is twisted to further humiliation of tedros, who is now her obeying play thing.
I would assume further seasons would have been her and tedros finding talent and furthering power in the music industry whilst they each scheme for who is in control.
