Greetings everyone
I was planning on doing this as my very first rewatch for some time now, and with S2 coming up in ‘October 2023’ now seems the best time to do this.
So what is ‘Goblin Slayer’?
(Mal Review is a bit spoilery for Ep1)
‘Goblin Slayer’ is an fantasy (notably not Isekai besides following many RPG tropes) Anime that follows the titular Hero who is simply know as Goblin Slayer (duh). You think the name is a bit simplistic? Buckle up, it’s how we do things here, this won’t even be the weirdest name…
And what does Goblin Slayer do? Well, he slays Goblins! (duh)
Know as the lowest of the of the known Monsters of the four sided world, most adventurers only take Goblin quests out of necessaty in order to climb the ranks in the adventurers Guild. In fact, most simple farmers boys could take on a Goblin and remain victorious.
So why does Goblin Slayer only slay Goblins? They really deserve it! And who if not him would do such a thankless job, and not as easy as it may seem at first if you ever heard of Tucker’s Kobolds
That’s right, I’m referencing DnD. As I said, the show follows many western RPG tropes and references, and if you enjoy those you might enjoy ‘Goblin Slayer’ unless…
For better or worse, you may have already heard of ‘Goblin Slayer’
To quote the top comment of the original discusssion thread
Jesus Christ that made me uncomfortable
The show is somewhat infamous in it’s decision on which shots to use as fan service.
[Trigger Waring SA] The Goblins rape human women, especially Ep1 has a very graphic rape scene.
You might call Ep1 a normie filter as later ecchi scenes aren’t as bad (at least as far as I remember, it’s been some time for me as well), or you might call it the shows greatest flaw since even the Manga isn’t as bad.
I should also point out that the Show is pretty gory.
Personally I could always overlook this aspect since the worldbuilding and action where otherwise really good, but I won’t fault anyone for getting uncomfortable during those scenes.
What is an Rewatch
A rewatch is like a book club, a way for the community to come together and discuss non-airing anime in a format similar to episode threads for currently airing shows, usually one episode a day or in small batches so viewers can focus on discussing the events as they go through the anime rather than the series as a whole in a single thread. They’re a great way for new viewers to experience a series as well as any spoilers for later in a series are generally not allowed. (unless properly spoiler taged)
Usually people post either their live reactions or a writeup about ther thoughts to an episode once a day, but I would love to have some more discussion beyond that, especially among first time watchers.
I was planning on doing a Manga comparisson, similar to the one in the Kodomo no Jikan rewatch, but in the past people have shared production infos, discussions about composition and direction, fan art, self made wallpapers or the accompanying OST.
I would also like to ask a couple of questions each day related to the show or RPGs in general
Where to watch
Google says it’s up on Crunchyroll in the US, as well as on Funimation (is this still a thing?)
The Movie Goblin Crown may be on Amazon prime.
If you can’t find it there, I’m sure you should still know where to look for it
Possible Shedule
I’m open about the timeslot for the episode threads and will probably make an poll in case there is enough interest.
Since I’m pretty busy right now, I would probably start in about two weeks which should still give us enough time to finish, but the latest would be the 18th of September since I expect the second season to start airing no sooner than the 7th of October…
If you have questions, this would be a good place to ask them.
As I said, this would be my first rewatch, so I hope you bear with me
