Alas, other contexts and remedies may be missing from that.
Like how pollution is an externality disregarded to maintain maximized rent extraction, keeping “the average human” dis-empowered from making meaningful choices. How about we consider the average sociopathic billionaire… and avoid the misdirect of “the question”, and keep questioning more, and more broadly across contexts, and more with more nuance.
Many of the same suppressed technologies that avail all space to us (… space, expanding faster than we could ever fill it), has many overlaps with technologies that could radically expand the carrying capacity of earth into the hundreds of trillions of humans living in nature-abundant forest arcologyscapes. Not saying we should, just that we could. We have so much headroom without the crooks holding us down just so they can have more than the rest. And at what epic squander too. E.g. Wall St destroys 7 times as much wealth and resources as it extracts (or as they put it “makes”). Military, even worse, by far.
So much headroom.
And then “the average human”, is kept violently wilfully ignorant to this… so much so that they reach for misanthropy as a virtue and path to a solution, that when following through, ultimately terminates in anthrocide. … When instead… we could have… availed the headroom.
How would not tolerating look like? Let’s start with you as an example, maybe your loved ones too. And maybe look at the horrors of a one child policy in China before we start following that idea again.
The average human has much more of a negative effect on the environment than a cow. So, shouldn’t the question be why we tolerate so many people?
You beat me to it.
“The average human”…
So you propose… anthrocide?
How virtuous. To prevent ecocide, right?
The lesser evil.

Maybe start with people like you who take things on the Internet too seriously
Don’t ya just love when scumbags try to make ecofascism woke?
Go back to being a terrible dad Ra’as AlGhoul.
You’re really sensitive, huh?
