Is the US not part of the world?
The problem is when the sub becomes dominated by US news stories.
If the post only affects the US then it should be in a US sub. Posts here are for articles that effect more than one country.
There’s a lot of posts here that are about things that seemingly affect only the country where it happened. You can’t gatekeep news.
If it happened in the world, I would imagine it belongs here.
If you have a problem with the sub, maybe you should make your own sub? It’s that simple. There is a reason for the rule and it was already explained to you.
