My ex and I got on one of the first such maps back in 2005 or so. Having a young child, we dug in a bit.

The vast majority of offenses seemed like no big deal. We were taken aback by what counts as a “sex offender”. Don’t know how to explain that statement. Maybe the offenses were far less “dramatic” than we expected?

And keep in mind, scoring a sex offender is great for the local DA’s numbers. Kinda like how we see bullshit terrorism charges.

Yup depending the city, state, and judge it can land you on the list. It makes it less effective in my opinion honestly. Actual sex offender i.e rapists, child molesters should be how it should be.

Why is there such a big concentration of sex offenders though?

Maybe because its a concentration of humans called a city. And sex offenders are a super wide range, 99% don’t have anything to do with children and like half don’t even with another person in general.
