Anyone know if the Roku remotes that don’t do voice control have microphones? I’ll rip it open if they do but like, I really don’t wanna do that if I don’t need to. I’m unfortunate enough to have a Roku TV and not have a box I can use for streaming so It’s set up with my jellyfin. I know they can see what I’m watching, but can they hear me too?

Are you hosting on your own machine or server? If so, you can add some buttons that are hidden such that only bots can see them and ban anything that clicks them.

I’m not sure personally how you’d manage it with html+css with no client side scripting, but my theory is to just move your ‘I’m a bot’ indicator button way off screen with css, or render it invisible and super small so it’s unlikely a human could ever find it.

Already built into gnome in the least intrusive way I can imagine. I’ve got permission from my admins at my school to log into gnome with my school M$ account and now I have a network drive in my file browser that is just my OneDrive. I don’t use it, since I have a nextcloud instance, but it’s nice to have it available.

I’m not educated enough to have an opinion that goes beyond what I like to type. I find C style to be the nicest.

As far as I can tell that’s not possible on FreeBSD. The vm.swappiness parameter doesn’t exist there.

I often use FreeBSD on a system with 2 gigs of ram. I WISH swap was useful. OOM killer is so overzealous the thing just kills whatever before even touching swap.

This is the first step to diagnosing issues with your wireless radios such as wifi and bluetooth. This command (you can copy and paste it into a terminal, this command is totally safe, but normally you shouldn’t copy commands you don’t understand) will probe your PCI devices and USB devices to find anything matching the words “Network”, “Wireless”, or “Bluetooth”, then it will run the “rfkill” command, which will tell us if these devices are “blocked” or “unblocked”. If they are “blocked”, you will need to “unblock” them.

To “unblock” your devices, using the number under “ID” as reported by the rfkill command instead of %ID%, run the following (this one cannot be copy-pasted, you must type it manually to ensure the correct command is entered):
sudo rfkill unblock %ID%

If this doesn’t help:
You may have updated everything except your ‘linux-headers’. Headers are special files that teach the kernel how to talk to userspace programs. Sometimes they’re important for your drivers to work correctly. It would be worth running dpkg --list | grep linux-headers and seeing that you have an option that matches with the version supplied by uname -r. If you lack a matching header, manually install it via the apt package manager from the command line. It is as simple as sudo apt install linux-headers

Also, forgive my intrusion on your personal choices, but I would strongly recommend using Chromium or Ungoogled-Chromium unless you have a use-case for real full-fat Google Chrome. Google Chrome is an egregious piece of malware under the definition supplied by the Free Software Foundation.

Fauxx I often have to make sure it’s still running because I have a custom config that keeps me disconnected from cell service, the device can’t even make emergency calls, but if you’re device is a standard “always online” configuration it should keep running ad infinitum. On first run, it gives you a survey to determine what not to put in the ad profile it generates for you. It will make a new one every week at least. It still peppers in accurate data and whatnot to ensure that your real data doesn’t show up as a hole in the ad profile, since if you hide too well your absence will be noticed.

I get the idea that this is pronounced “eff-in-nix” which might (probably not, idk though I’m not a lawyer) save them from a lawsuit should the folks at velociraptor aerospace dynamics (what a name) should decide they have a problem sharing the name.

Why would anyone want a dwell-clicker? That sounds awful and like it’d cause so many problems with normal use. Is it meant to be an accessibility feature for folks without fingers?

Oh I see, the military is allowed to have ad-tracking disabled but when I have an adversarial noise generator running to produce alternative ad profiles and obfuscate my person from my device I’m a “terrorist” and “won’t be allowed back in the country if I leave”

Unironically, yes.

I used to have every device on my network connected via smb share. Either I did something completely wrong or the protocol is just dog slow. Switched to filebrowser quantum with local mDNS resolution and haven’t looked back. Now when I need to move files from pc to pc over the network I just navigate in a browser to http://files.local/ and download them on the client machine. It is also significantly more friendly for my (non-techie) partner who often uses it to grab music from our shared digital music library to put on their MP3 player.

Gershwin’s wiki and git repo list the ghostbsd variant as outdated, but in my experience it is also the only one that works out of the box.

I’d like to see this with Gershwin DE on top. They feel made for each other.

I get the idea this is meant for Autodidacts who need to try and fail to learn, not for people who are willing to pick up a textbook and just learn the material.

I agree though, the tasks are easy. I get the idea they’re sorted by tedium, not difficulty.

I used plasma for nearly a decade and only recently switched off of it because I wanted to try something different. I moved over to GNOME for a bit, and while it was nice, I kept running into issues with customization, specifically Gnome Extensions are a pain in my ass.

I moved to cosmic a few weeks ago on my desktop rig, which is my server, but is also for gaming. I don’t want this one to feel like an “office” machine, and cosmic does a great job of feeling like just a computer. On my laptop, which I use for development, I prefer a stable “no-bullshit” interface, as such I use MATE there. MATE, if you’re unfamiliar, is the successor to Gnome2. It is a more traditional desktop experience, using familiar idioms. Customization is limited (out of box) compared to the more major DE’s like KDE and GNOME
