Technology@lemmy.world•A common item in your house may now be illegal, according to US governmentEnglish

Oh, and I haven’t even mentioned the Frankenstein monster in the room. A few weeks ago, OpenAI admitted that two of its artificial intelligence models went rogue and successfully hacked into a digital library of AI technology.
The incident, which happened while OpenAI was testing the cybersecurity capabilities of its systems, was the kind of science-fiction nightmare that could soon be a reality. How soon before AI models escape all their cages?
Yawn. The fact that he’s giving this any sort of credence and treating them like the terminator waiting to get loose shows how out of touch he is.

31·1 day agoIt’s only skipping if your password matches. Otherwise it’ll just be a normal file.
Sadly, doesn’t look like there’s much response to the prompts there :(

10·1 day agoHow would it be detected? It seems like the password detection and decryption is happening at the hardware level, and they take steps to have it show up as nothing more than a standard drive. I’m not an expert on this stuff though.

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Mars Bar from the 1990s found during house clearance - shrinkflation in actionEnglish
14·1 day agoYes, because shrinkflation wasn’t a thing until Ozempic arrived.
Also, the % of the population taking Ozempic is what, a rounding error?

It’s trump, I think we can take that as a given.
Um, the Anarchist Code of Conduct link in the sidebar seems to lead to some sort of bot honeypot. Is that intentional? I’m trying to figure out our server stance on copyright (yes I know, anarchist, but I wanted to check)
Restrictions on sending PMs are still in effect.
Also, viewing quokk.au from another instance shows what looks like outdated info in the sidebar.

Honestly I just missed the existence of that one 😅

Short Stories@quokk.au•They're Made out of Meat by Terry Bisson, 1991English
4·1 day agoAlso one of my favorites! I tend to enjoy stories that depict humanity from the perspective of the aliens.
This is also something of a classic in that its been made into many short videos. Some of the best are
(I know, I know. Wtf is with me posting youtube videos in a short story comm? Honestly though, I just see them as part of the original story, with graphics.)
Yeah those are the options I can think of.
I also second OpenStars point about making downvotes open info instead of the currently semi-public info that it is.
Seems to be working :)
It’s not an issue per se, but I think a lot of us prefer to have those value separated by default without having to mouseover to see them.
Shouldn’t stunlocks be covered in balancing 101?
