I think, it’s possible to find alternative materials which behave similar to plastic in certain use-cases.
But yeah, I can’t see a one-for-one replacement happening. It’s part of the appeal of plastic, that it does not degrade.

There’s also this newfangled cutlery out of metal, which is pretty cool. You rub it with soap water and it’s as good as new.
😋
Yeah, every so often I do want to give it a try, to see what’s possible, but I just immediately bounce off from trying to explain my task in a prompt. There’s so much context one needs to be aware of, I’d have to write a whole essay into there.
And that’s when I’m lucky, when I myself know what needs to be done. More often than not, I start implementing and then find out what the steps are. Finding that out upfront, so I could try to write it into a prompt, takes an insane amount of effort. And especially so, when I can’t rely on the instructee thinking logically to catch when I made a mistake.
Huh, I feel the complete opposite. Human-written code follows some sort of causality, for example when you see complex code or a strange detail change, they had a reason to write that and they likely tried other solutions first. With AI-generated code it feels a lot more like I have to rate each changed line in isolation, which is exhausting.
But yeah, I don’t know, we don’t typically do code reviews. I’ve only been in that situation so far, when I had significantly more knowledge of the project and language, so there were rarely discussions beyond trying to teach them.
Hmm, might be like that, because we borrowed that word from the Dutch. Apparently, it originally meant “Jagd” as in “Jagdschiff” (basically “hunt boat”, for chasing pirates away from the coast).
“Jagd” is feminine by itself and with how closely related Dutch and German are, we might have simply used the same articles. The Dutch word for “hunt” (“jacht”) at least continues to be feminine, too.
That would be cool, but human brains are weirdos. If you’re already copying text, you could’ve edited or annotated it, for example. For example, if it’s an opinion you don’t entirely agree with, you might feel obliged to say so, because you have the ability to do so when it’s a text post.
If you want to call that irrational, I’m not arguing against that. I’m just saying it’s the reality we live in and I’d like to have tooling to deal with that better, because I would also prefer text to not be screenshotted.
Yeah, really unfortunate that that’s not possible. Always having to take a screenshot and then type out letter by letter what’s on the screenshot, that can be quite annoying.
But even if copying text was possible, the reason people post pictures of text is to give proper attribution, but also to distance themselves from the content, so that it’s clear that they don’t necessarily hold the exact same opinion or that they might not have all the knowledge to defend the statements in the post.
Cross-posting could fill that same roll without screenshotting text.
Hmm, okay, maybe you want to report a bug for it not maintaining display settings, if you haven’t yet…
You might be thinking of “Holland”? The Netherlands is sometimes informally referred to as “Holland”, but that’s also a region within the Netherlands:
Pasta with tomato sauce is my favorite dish, so I can cook some elaborate versions of it, but yeah, an all time favorite is still just purreed tomatoes, salt, pepper.
What do you mean by display outputs? Like what screens it uses? (That should be manageable with Win+P or the little monitor icon in the system tray.)
Would be cool, if we could cross-post Mastodon posts…
So, is there no differentiation between “a fish” and “the fish”?
https://join-lemmy.org/ can help you find an instance based on your interests.
If they couldn’t find/trust additional admins, I don’t see how they could’ve handed it off entirely…
That does make a lot more sense than my brainfart of plane jousting…
If the question writer was aware, they would have formulated the question differently. It’s just not clear-cut whether HTML is a programming language or not, so you wouldn’t be quizzing their knowledge, but rather just whether they hold the same opinion as you. Or whether they meta-gamed correctly. Neither of which make for a fun show…
Well, I thought they were talking about gluing something together…
Yeah, I’ve had times in my life where distracting myself from my thoughts was helpful for my mental health.
At some point, my thoughts stopped being intrusive and now I do find it more helpful to actually think them, because it distracts from the negativity of social media, but it’s also necessary for finding motivation to do things (can’t get motivated, if you don’t even think of those things).
Might be worth trying to find a middleground. Maybe you can try to take pauses from distracting yourself and then very actively think of tasks to be doing. But yeah, if you can get professional help with that, that’s a lot better than from some random person on the internet…
I think, you found a bug in the Lemmy webpage. 🙃
