  • I can’t find it now, but I once read an article that said that bc patriarchy devalues women and our opinions and centers men, it results in straight (and non straight men I suppose) centering other men in their lives. Since only men’s opinions matter, men do everything for the approval of other men, usually the “manliest” man. For example, “trophy wives” are usually more about showing off to other men rather than bc the husband actually wants to be married to or is even super attracted to her. Or some men will pretend to not be attracted to a woman if their male friends have deemed her unattractive. Basically, they have done studies on it and if you search for homosexual desire and patriarchy you can find some (though I can’t find the specific one I’m thinking of)

  • When someone (traditionally a woman) changes her name when she gets married she has to change it with everything, including social security, which is a real pain in the ass. It also means that her “real name” is now different to the name on her birth certificate. So if she tries to use her birth certificate as proof of identity and citizenship, like for this other ID bill, it likely would be denied as proof bc the names don’t match. So she would probably have to get a passport if she doesn’t already have one. Except to get her passport she would probably also need to use her birth certificate or a whole bunch of other stuff. Basically, tho bill doesn’t explicitly say “we want to make it harder for women to vote” but it will cause issues for everyone and women will be disproportionally affected bc traditional women take their husband’s last names

  • It’s still incorrect of them to say that representative Omar called for Trump’s execution. She said “At least in Somalia they execute pedophiles” and then RNC Research changed it to “At least in Somalia we execute pedophiles.” Also, her point isn’t that Trump should be executed, but that Trump should be punished rather than rewarded by being elected president and given the power to protect pedophiles like himself

  • Well… not in Narnia, no. There is a completely separate show (based on different books iirc) called The Magicians which as a concept is like Narnia but darker (also a bit of Harry Potter bc there’s a magical grad school). And in The Magicians they do bring up the matter of human-animal relationships since the animals in the magical world can talk and all

  • So basically in The Magician’s Nephew we see the creation of Narnia and how the White Witch got there. And after creating all the animals Aslan picked out two from a handful of different species and gave them the ability to speak. He also made the small animals, like squirrels, bigger and the big animals, like elephants, smaller (but only the ones that could speak changed size). So the descendants of the speaking ones can speak and the non-speaking ones (which are literally called the dumb ones in the books) can’t speak. Some species can’t talk and aren’t intelligent, like the mice in The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. But bc the mice in that book chewed through the ropes that bound Aslan on the stone table they were eventually gifted with speech and intelligence which is why Reepicheep and his friends can talk by the time of Voyage of the Dawn Treader
