I’ve encountered a few roads in my time driving where the speed limit doesn’t match actual driving conditions at all.
I think by now we should have the technology to do statistical analyses on actual road data (currently observed speed vs. speed limit speed) to more accurately assign speed limits that are safe enough that enough people actually follow them.
Naval invasions are a lot more difficult, armored units aren’t easily transportable, and you still need good beaches as well. Lacking the hard power of an armored push makes assaults difficult in general, soft power can only get you so far.
Controlling the Panama Canal is a crucial lynchpin though as it allows you to easily reinforce a navy on one side with the other without going all the way down past Tierra Del Fuego.
What really bothers me is that when a person is recalled with the payphone, they just let the handset drop and leave an empty tone. This is inconvenient for others who want to use the phone.
This is a pretty non-serious post, I’m not actually advocating an invasion all the way down to Panama. This is video game logic.
Increased coastlines do increase the “front” but holding territory grants victory points, but not the sea. Coastal fortifications can prevent Marine landings though, but you’d need substantially less manpower to defend compared to a land border.

I usually can do stereograms pretty well but for some reason I had to tilt my phone about 10° counter-clockwise for the stereo images to align to get the 3D effect.
