Richard Medhurst believes the point of this war for the USA is to dominate the global LNG markets. Destroying Iranian gas and Gulf state gas in one blow, taking Russia out of the picture with the Ukraine coup and war and Nordstream destruction, America is the largest LNG exporter on Earth. They are at capacity already but are making crazy profits, and it will only continue to increase.
We may see the AI bubble pop, but I believe America’s future economy is gas and oil. China getting cheap renewable energy to the entire world is the only thing that can counter the US dominating the global energy markets for decades. Unfortunately, China also is being hurt by this war as they got a lot of energy from the gulf. Russia and China really need to work together to quickly build massive joint energy infrastructure, they need each other. Ukraine needs to be stopped from their energy terrorism, they will probably continue to rove around in packs, training fascists everywhere on earth how to use drones even if their war finally collapses.

It is a capitalist state, one with a government that is partially a Liberal Secular Republic and partially a Theocratic Meritocracy. Just because much of the nation is state owned does not change this. The USA under FDRs new deal was still capitalist. It’s specific and unique quality is that it has been under economic sanction and siege for the better part of decades and has managed its internal economy to withstand this. It’s most similar to Russia I would say but with Shia Islam influence instead of Orthodox Christian, and religion plays a much greater role in the state and in the lives of Iranians culturally.
