We considered that, but don’t wanna deal with update mechanisms and the inherit complexity of dealing with 20 operating system. Tech like Tauri does exist, but we haven’t gotten around it yet. There’s only volunteers working on this (atm only me), so we tend to only pick up projects we are personally interested in.
A good reason to go that route would be that the calculations run 3x faster with a x86 binary compared to WASM.

Yes, the project will remain FOSS and will hopefully stick around for as long as the game exists. The issue I see is that there are very little people maintaining it in regards to software and data. Lots of the templates are outdated and - unless new contributors appear - won’t get updated any time :(
