Proton Drive for photo storage is a horrible experience, though. As someone who has been relying on the free tier Proton accounts for cloud based photo storage for the past year, currently sitting at roughly ~2k files currently that I am very dedicated to keep - How is it a horrible experience?

Technology@lemmy.world•Inside a mass shooter’s harrowing history with ChatGPTEnglish
1·3 days agoThat was the point I was trying to make in my original comment. I don’t think there is, and I don’t think OpenAI even care at this point given their track record of bad PR. They are already in bed with the government, they can’t really be touched until that changes first.

2·3 days agoThat could work. But who will define where the company should step in, at which times, and still maintain respect for the right to digital privacy? And in this case, since it was OpenAI specifically which is generally known as a corrupt company, would one trust the company to not use this as some kind of loophole for other stuff?

If you’re hunting precious updoots with snarky one-line comments that are parroting the ideas of internet culture, then this is not the place for it.

818·3 days agoWhy should OpenAI be held responsible for this particular incident? Because their LLM recommended the user to contact a suicide hotline when he expressed his suicidal thoughts? Because it correctly answered his questions and confirmed that the safety of his shotgun was off? Don’t get me wrong, I like having companies held accountable as much as the next guy, but why don’t you ask the gun production companies to be held responsible as well? Hell, we might as well be asking for his parents to be held accountable for their offspring’s actions.
Yes, LLM’s can, with or without external manipulation, provide information about sensitive subjects, which can then be consumed by vulnerable individuals who may act in a harmful way. That individual would have acted and reached the same outcome not matter if the LLM would have existed or not, because there are multiple options to using an LMM to gather information.
What are the realistic expectations of OpenAI to implement to prevent these things, that doesn’t automatically mean stricter restrictions to the user data privacy and further strengthen the control of citizens (thanks to the flourishing relationship between OpenAI and the American government)?
Why did you even post at all?

Mental Health@lemmy.ml•a question for panic disorder patient about Xanax (Alprazolam)English
2·3 days agoEveryone is different, and reacts differently to drugs. What triggers anxiety (and how we deal with dependencies) can generally speaking be tied to seasonal change, since you seem to have noticed a change in your mental health during the transaction from Spring > Summer I guess that could be a viable reason.
There could also be a number of other possible reasons, like maybe you went through some particularly tough challenges during that same timeframe, which had a stressful impact on you. Stress, in case you didn’t know, is a very common form of anxiety.
Personally I experience a severe increase of anxiety during Autumn/Winter, my medical experience is a bit different from yours because during the time when I was using alprazolam to treat panic attacks, I didn’t have it prescribed. I did keep a daily medical journal/diary where I included the week’s dosage/mental health, mainly to keep track of my dosage. During the increased anxiety periods I kept the dosage steady and simply ‘head-butted it’ because it was still manageable thanks to the alprazolam. I was still obviously a mess and it was horrible, but it was doable. I reminded myself that adding withdrawals from bensodiazepines to the list of things that are ruining my life won’t help me in any way.
Again, nobody can realistically answer your question (because of the previous reasons), but a good rule of thumb that helped me to keep my dosage intact without experiencing withdrawals is to always keep your bensodiazepine dosage as low as mentally possible. It is a drug that is designed to keep your head above water, not to keep your whole body afloat.
I hope that helps in some way.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Just to get this straight. If I stand outside a voting center and give each person 500 bucks to vote for me. That is illegal? But if I am a Dipshit In Chief and offer 5k that is 100 percent legal?English

Users from both sides now resorted to communicating with each other for the first time, and are teaming up to raise a monument in OP’s honor, sources say.

Technology@piefed.world•Artificial intelligence acts as an ‘ideological chameleon’ and may deepen political polarization, study finds
41·28 days agoWith today’s filter bubble being the sole reason behind most opinions of your average person today, they’re already active daily on FB, IG, Tik-Tok, and of course, let’s not forget your dedicated Youtube viewer, who is easily pushed down a conspiracy rabbit hole… The echo chamber is already in full effect.
Yes, LLM’s are Yes-men who will butter you up and treat you like you’re the MC about to save the world. And your average, doomscrolling adult will most likely not even know about prompting an LLM to challenge their believes. But any of those platforms are already pushing down content down the user’s throats that is biased, false, and usually designed as rage bait to increase the emotional response (and thus making it basically impossible for the victim to be aware of the filter bubble, since they’re the only rational people living in a crazy world).
AI is not the end-game dystopian bogeyman everyone jumps through loops to make it out to be. It can absolutely be problematic and are already is being used to stir up anger and spread misinformation. You know, like journalists (who writes articles specifically designed to spread fear… Like this one), social media platforms, ‘influencers’, or politicians have done for years now.
We were already fucked before LLM’s and datacenters was a thing. People seem so desperate to find something to blame.

3·1 month agoThat was my thought as well. But apparently they are known for their fast growth —the genera can grow as fast as half a metre a day (that is, about 20 inches a day), ultimately reaching 30 to 80 metres (100 to 260 ft.
So although they may reach a pretty impressive length, they seem dependant on sunlight like a previous comment pointed out.
