  • Mike Johnson won’t call the House in until after the 2 Dec special election in TN-07 Aftyn Behn is running against a maga candidate for a vacant seat

If she loses the election, then this cancels Grijalva’s vote and then it will be ‘safe’ for the Pedo Protection Party to bring the House back.

    When she wins… Who knows.

The House will stay out until then, which is a major contributing factor to why the GOP was so desperate to peel off the ten Dork Dems on the Losers List above. They can NOT accept anything that would send the CR back to the House because the House is not available until 3 Dec.

Send Behn some dollars if you can, many small donations can have a great impact. She accepts no corp pac or iapac money

Also, she has a substack for posting about issues

  • Falling for what?

Voting for the most progressive/left/whatever-label candidate that has any reasonable chance in the election? Is that falling for something?

Obviously the elections are over, with excellent results (nationwide), so all of this bleating is moot

    But

Does anyone here sincerely believe that Cuomo would be a better Mayor? How many folks really wished Eric Adams the 2nd?

For sure, if Mamdani falls down and knocks his head and gets Fettermanized, that’s not gonna be cool.

But to criticize him for doing his best to become a good and capable leader for ALL OF NYC is silly. He’s not suddenly become Bibi’s best friend and I doubt seriously that he’s secretly wearing IDF panties to bed.

He IS however going to have to work with all of the constituencies in NYC which includes like a literal million Jews. That demographic isn’t going to be uniform in its outlook on the Palestinian genocide, and maybe 10% of them are going to be Hasidic or similar. There is really no benefit to gratuitously pissing any of them off before he even gets started.

This is just more purity test bullshit

  • Many men would LOVE a reliable, non-condom, male-controlled birth control method

Currently for men there are two options — condoms, which are problematic and difficult in several ways, or vasectomy, which is essentially permanent or at least difficult and uncertain to be reversed.

The third method is to take WAY too many TOO HOT baths, but that also has uncertainty and is a real hassle.

As it stands, really for men they either need to use a condom, or trust that your female partner is reliable.

  • Are you required (currently) to use that digital ID to access some types of websites?

Can you browse porn without submitting a selfie? Or your digital ID?

The general concern is that once online digital ID is required, people will be forced to use if for ALL internet activity.

To be fair I don’t know the exact situation in various places, but it looks like UK is heading that way rapidly. China is already there for some time now (?)

Eventually, it will be required to log into any form of social media and “Droggelbecher” could (will) be associated with your real name.

  • I think that you’re onto something with the dumbass White Guy™ thing here, and while it’s pretty reductive and I do believe that people can (and often do) grow and change (for better or worse) over the course of their lived experiences.

So, perhaps today he is still a dumbass. I know that I am in some ways. We’re all dumbasses in our way and it’s the people who believe that they (or anyone) are infallible that are the true idiots.

Maine could do a LOT worse than the dumbass lefty-leaning former Marine that you describe. Maine is composed of roughly 92.82% dumbass White Guy™ (and gals)

So yeah, maybe someone better will rise up. Or maybe, this guy, who just recently pointed out on his own, in an extemporous exchange at a town hall, that he has a lot of privilege based on his cis-white-maleness and personal experiences, is a good fit for Maine.

    We will see.

  • Yea it’s pretty clear.

Capitalism and religion, with maybe a little bit of ‘public health’ thrown in

There’s strong bias against contraception in general from some religious groups, and it is strongest against the “easier” forms. For example, among Catholics technically ALL contraception is forbidden, but condoms are more acceptable than an IUD, both of which are considered by some sects to be ‘abortifacient’ — on the theory that it merely prevents a fertilized egg from implanting on the uterine wall.

So condoms are ‘better’ because it is a barrier method.

The only Catholic-approved BC is abstinence of course.

Public Health also has a strong bias towards condoms, because of their protection against STIs. Of course, actual proper condom use is… inconsistent at best for most people.

Anyhow, the easiest and least intrusive methods of BC are usually viewed with the most suspicion and disapproval from all sides, and Vasagel/RISUG is like… the most extreme example of that.

    It is:

    • relatively inexpensive
    • extremely effective
    • one-time clinic visit
    • fully reversible, with no recovery period
    • impossible to forget or accidentally nullify

Unfortunately none of these factors endear it to the capitalists, the puritans, or the public-health hand-wringers*

*To be clear, i support public health goals, but the AIDS crisis has put a strong and lasting emphasis/insistence that condoms are the only way

  • I am not a Mainer but I’ve donated to Platner’s campaign because I believe we need voices like his. Susan Collins and Janet Mills are two sides of the same coin, in the same way that all the old ‘establishment’ Democrats are similar to their ‘moderate’ Republican counterparts

Graham Platner is the right choice amongst the candidates in this race.

We need to elect candidates like Kat Abu and Abigail Spanberger and Zach Dembo and Darren McAuly and Maura Sullivan and Maggie Goodlander and Deb Halland and many other good, earnest, qualified candidates.

None of them are perfect candidates. None of them are perfect people.

But they are better, and we have to hope we can all get better, be better and do better together over time.

(disclaimer: unfortunately my real opinion is that we’re actually totally fucking cooked as a country, and there’s a solid chance that authoritarian fascism will be with us for a while — longer than my lifetime. I will continue to participate in the ways I’m capable and willing, but it’s probably futile)

  • Well, I’ve not had it since it isn’t available yet.

But I get what you mean about the needles in the dong.

But most likely, the needle is through the side of the scrote, which might not be much better.

Probably best to just not watch.

It is less invasive than a vasectomy, since it’s a needle and not a scalpel, but ofc it’s not as simple as a pill

On the other hand, it’s one-and-done and nevermore worried about unwanted paternity claims.
