Pedro Sanchez is the only European leader with balls. I wish we have the same here in Ireland. My country needs to wean off from being a tax haven for US multinationals.

This is why I love videogames instead.

Yup. They are the ones who led us to where we are now. Blue MAGA/neolibs are basically saying “we don’t have any good economic platforms to make ordinary Americans have a better life, we care more about enriching our billionaire donors, but at least we’re not bigoted unlike Trump.”
Kinda like they refuse to admit we all came from Africa and and thus our ancestors are black.

Most people don’t really even think about privacy.

The Battlefield series are the only games I played from EA. I stopped after 4.

I think at this stage it’s children who are easily impressionable and using their parent’s credit cards to buy EA games, is the company’s customer base. EA hasn’t produced a good game for a long awhile. Battlefield games had been the only games I played much before 2020, but since then I stopped caring about EA.

We’re not in Cyberpunk 2077.

I’m convinced that the people complaining of Star Trek being woke are bots and Heritage Foundation trolls.

My main complaint is the bad search system of Lemmy. You can only search for community but not specific topics using specific keywords.

Good thing I boycott Starbucks.

Instead of book burning, it’s book banning that modern fascists do. It’s less ominous and less obvious.

The Soviet Union wasn’t capitalist when it collapsed, and the current Russia isn’t communist. China is communist but in name only.
For me, being apolitical implies someone is full aware of the political developments, but chooses not to take sides or form well thought views. The people I mentioned are more apathetic, as in they don’t bother at all being updated even with the slightest news.

I’m sure Gorbachev was far from perfect, but nobody foresaw how bad the collapse of the Soviet Union would have been, or that it would have collapsed at all. The “shock therapy” that happened post-Soviet Union was long after he’s gone.

Gorbachev was a way nicer person and smarter. The other is an annoying orange.
It’s not even being apolitical. Some people are naturally sensitive and easily feel depressed with negativity, so they avoid the news. Or that they are too preoccupied with their personal lives that they don’t have time to tune in to the news. I’m sure many of you know someone who are out of the loop with even just the most basic current events. I know someone who only heard about the invasion of Ukraine only two days later after it happened.

Before he became mainstream, he was asked if he believes in god, and he started with “what do you mean by god?” and went on jibber jabber without actually answering yes or no. I didn’t take him seriously since. Two years later, I was surprised he became popular. But anyway, his meandering and sophistry without addressing the main premise has always been his MO, especially with the trademark question “what do you mean…”
Nuclear is the lesser evil. Even my former boss who is an environmental scientist agree we should still maintain nuclear power plants, but only as stop gap before renewable energy becomes more ubiquitous.
