Kids under 18 are kids, not young adults.

Having said that I employ of young adults and they are mostly great. If they weren’t I would not employ them.

I remember 40 years ago, our high school graduating class being told we were the worst class to graduate from the school in it’s 120 year history. Somehow most of us have managed to do ok in life so far.

Sadly we also compete with government. By the time people add up all the benefits they get from not working, there is little motivation for them to work. For example we may pay a thousand dollars a month or more for their health insurance which they get for almost nothing if they do not work or keep their income down by working part time.

I think the thing to stop this happening is for the user to own the identity they use on Lemmy - so if you do not like what gas happened on the instance you signed up on, you can easily move to another instance or social media.

Lemmy is open source. Lots of people run instances, so there are a lot of choices.

But we are highly protective of children.

• We do not believe they should be the subject of indoctrination, be subject to treatment programs that could sterilize them for life, or have breasts and penises chopped off.
