They won’t do that because lots of customers won’t pay for an AI service if they can’t use the material to trick and defraud. Propaganda and misinformation is one of the biggest selling points for AI. Also they don’t want their company’s watermark on the demented, often illegal, sexual material that people make with these things.

But these are corporate actions meant to preserve the company and it’s legal defenses, they’re not doing it to preserve some individual suit’s moral principles or their love of democracy. Even if the companies themselves are Trump simps, they obviously don’t want their law firms to be as well.

If its is a publicly trading corporation then it doesn’t matter how principled the or nice the people who work in it are. Share price is the only thing that matters. That’s by design. Even someone as powerful as the CEO can’t challenge that. Any CEO who says “it will cost us money but we should this because it’s the right thing to do” is going to be kicked to the curb faster than a union organizer. Private companies can still have a conscious to some degree as long as it’s the owner’s conscious.

Also people won’t be able to pass AI work off as their own if it is labeled as such. Cheating and selling slop is the chief use for AI so any tag or watermark will be removed on the vast majority of stuff.

There’s also liability. If your AI generates code that’s used to program something important and a lot of people are injured or die, do you really want a tag that can be traceable to back the company to be on the evidence? Or slapped all over the child sex abuse images that their wonderful invention is churning out?

I hope it crashes but what if the market completely embraces feels-based economics and just says that incomprehensible AI slop noise is what customers crave? Maybe CEOs will interpret AI gibberish output in much the same way as ancient high priests made calls by sifting through the entrails of sacrificed animals. Tesla meme stock is evidence that you can defy all known laws of economic theory and still just coast by.

Their belligerence and ambiguity over their intentions and identity are great for convincing a jury to acquit on self-defense grounds.
