We are ruled by idiots. It’s probably been that way for the majority of history.

Most places I’ve worked, management has been a negative force.

I didn’t hear anything about these protests. Not even on Lemmy. But I don’t use Facebook products nor reddit, so my information sources are a little spotty.

I feel like if I was playing a scheduled game, I’d rather just play a tabletop RPG than be tied down to this game engine. But I guess the scale is different here and that might be interesting.

I did recently start a tabletop game, though with a system I like a thousand times more than DND.

I recently reinstalled nwn enhanced to see if I would enjoy it so many years later. The answer is no. DND 3rd is a bad system and nwn is slow and clunky. So much time is spent just watching animations. No tactical decisions. Just watch animations as it rolls dice.

It doesn’t help that the original campaign is bad.

Maybe it’s better in multiplayer, which admittedly is the main topic here. But the single player was so bad I can’t imagine wanting more.

People are emotionally driven. Everyone is, to an extent. Scientists are less likely to use that to support their point, or they’ll have emotionally displeasing things to say.

Right. Some people seem to never really develop that judgement.

Anyone can go through the code. And maybe find things, if they’re not too subtle and not successfully obfuscated. But not everyone will.

I feel like a malicious actor could hit a big pay day with a popular thing like Bloodborne, before people found the malice. There’s plenty of malware posing as game cracks out there, and it’s only easier to do that with AI tooling.

But aside from that, AI code can have confidentially incorrect code that has unwanted consequences.

Code review is difficult.

First time: blasphemous blade. Took hours. Used mimic tear. Barely got it.

Second time: antspur rapier, finger print shield. Done in 5 minutes. Poke poke poke rot swish poke poke poison poke win.

I don’t believe so, but I imagine people are working on that.

Along the same lines as the other guy said.

It’s difficult to verify that the software does the desired thing in all cases. It’s also difficult to verify that it’s not also a keylogger or other unwanted thing.

It may also have some AI generated code path that, say, nukes your home directory because the AI determined that was the appropriate error handling. Maybe no one reviewed it so they don’t even know it’s there. It might not even be malicious.

That’s all true of any software, but rapidly created AI generated code for legally dubious efforts, by unknown agents (no pun intended) is real hecking risky.

Sure but if it works it works right?

Verifying that software does the intended task and only the intended task is not trivial.

There’s already emulators that run fine. This seems extremely sketchy.

There’s a lot of idiots out there desperate for validation they don’t deserve.

A friend of mine’s dad lives in a nice suburb of DC. He heard on the “news” that “there was a drug deal” in the city, so he went and bought a gun “to protect his daughter”. He didn’t take any classes on gun safety, and I would be surprised if he stored it safely.

This is the level many people operate at. Emotional flailing.

It’s like the “only democrats have agency” thing. We as a society don’t seem to hold republicans to any sort of standard. They’re like a fire that burns or a plague that spreads. You can’t expect a fire to be polite.

Except they’re not an elemental force of nature. They’re people. People with names and addresses and free will. They should be held accountable.

When will rich people learn do with less?

We’ve got billionaires and mega millionaires stinking up the place like dragons sitting on their hoards. Seems like there are some easy fixes that don’t involve turnips.

Microsoft is unbothered by all of this because the Xbox project was always an effort to PC-ify the console market. They just assumed they’d own PC gaming. Aside from that little hiccup, it’s gone swimmingly.

Side note, but it always baffled me why Microsoft went into consoles. They owned windows, where everyone was playing PC games on. They could’ve made something like Steam, if you ignore that large companies like Microsoft seem incapable of delivering good products. Don’t even both with the hardware expenses.
