  • Most likely your software will work via bottles or wine. If you have a desktop PC from the last decade and it cost more than $1k, you can also run a VM (or Winboat) specifically for your software with nearly 1:1 performance to bare metal (if you get the passthrough right.)

Which isn’t a permanent solution, mind you, but if it’s just one piece of software holding you back and you don’t care to play with alternatives, then the solution isn’t to keep Windows despite its terrible performance in 99% of things, it’s to switch to windows and emulate or compatibility layer the 1% of software you might use that requires windows.

  • It is but it takes the blame off of the platform entirely.

To word it a different way - if I made a service where no matter what you wanted to say I would write down your words, read them, and run through town shouting them until I found the person it was directed to and then shout it at them… I would be liable for the words being said as much as the person paying me to say it.

If, however, I have a strict policy where I will only do the above after I strictly review and moderate your words, and you managed to sneak in a tongue twister that says something dirty that I didn’t realize until after I shouted it… I am no longer liable. I did everything a reasonable person could expect, you are the only one liable.

When people sue in the US (and when companies really fuck up) people sue the person liable and all possible parties that could be included. The parties then shift blame around pretrial and try to prove they are not liable by xyz to get dismissed off the case. If this fails then each party sued essentially has a trial for their specific liability, which needs to be separately proved in court; and if it makes it that far, in front of a jury (or panel of judges, or a single judge, depending on which state and what kind of action).

  • However that’s not the point. The point is Companies, when brought into say, the Pennsylvania supreme court on Obscenity charges, can say they do everything technically possible to filter out these words, so we are not liable for whatever law – this usually makes prosecutors fail at trial, or reconsider bringing charges.

If you let anyone say the no no words, and someone sends a rape threat to Nancy Pelosi on your platform you could be liable for harassment, hosting obscenity (real charge in multiple US states), and other such financial annoyances.

So it is cheaper to just have a set of policies and procedures in place, even if it objectively makes your platform worse, even if it objectively is not effective, simply because it looks better in court and gets you out of more fines. See: The New Zealand law spurred on by the Christchurch shooter, which essentially requires every website to censor violent images and manifestos or pay some ridiculous $5mil NZD fine a DAY that it is kept up after being reported. If they can AI things breaking that law away, even if it harms other users, they’re going to do so.

Companies, like all parasites, will actively shy away from poisonous food sources and pick other directions to go in.

  • There is no objective truth. If you learn nothing else about life, learn that.

There is what you believe the evidence points to being the most likely sequence of events. That’s it.

Is it likely that Trump was the trigger to end a 40 year streak of presidents not having assassination attempts? Really? You don’t think every Snaggletooth with a gun in BFE Alabama actively planned to shoot Obama and would have at least made the news in an attempt? Is it really likely that the single most expense set of secret police in world history – a group of organizations with NO PUBLIC ACCOUNTABILITY and a history of human rights abuses worse than any other group in known world history, have failed multiple times to stop random kids with guns that magically fire the wrong caliber bullets?

No. It’s not likely Americans magically grew a spine for Trump, who is just the average American President without an tact or competency for secrecy.

What is likely is the WWE Superstar, whose only goal in life has been to be in Hollywood, has a stage director and keeps trying to garner sympathy with these fake attempts.

  • Owners will eventually be hurt; they care about profit and profit alone. Any superfluous costs will eat into the profit. This method would generate extra work - costing money, which would fail to resolve the issue repeatedly - costing money, until finally a replacement is ordered - costing money, then the maintenance guy has to ignore whatever other task and install the new furniture - costing money.

If only 10% of hotel guests did this at just half the rooms they stayed in over a year we’d collapse the global tourism economy and permanently shut down most hotels across the world.

I know you’re not looking for advice, but if it helps easy your anxiety: If you’ve not had a job before, then genuinely you cannot fuck up an interview for whatever job will give you a chance at an interview. Literally impossible. Like don’t commit a felony on the interview in plain site and you’re golden. If they don’t hire you then they found an internal employee/family member/family member of an employee to take the spot so don’t feel bad.

Real life is nepotism. That is how jobs work in the real world, at least in the western world. Occasionally nepotism fails because the nature of capitalism inherently leads to alienation of your fellow worker, eventually ending in the dissolution of the family unit entirely – this is where you come in; to pick up a spot available because the hiring manager has run out of people related to them and the employees they trust.

So they already have no expectations from you. Especially without a work history.

Just don’t show your genitals, ask to see their genitals, do a multi-million dollar drug deal without cutting them in, or assault someone during the interview and you’ll be perfectly fine. You are a willing wanton cog wanting to be shoved into an uncaring machine. The machine hole is hungry for cog. You be the best cog you can be and fill that hole.

  • Not on the majority of platforms nowadays. AI Moderation and content-aware automated filters before that ensure that the nasty people that say things like rape or shit or cum or Scunthorpe get censored, shadow banned, banned, then HWID/IP range banned in that order, in order to ensure the safety of everyone online.

Pity they can’t do anything about the CSAM, grooming, or nazis though.

  • No. There is no evidence of a ‘Uyghur Genocide.’

Yes, I know what characterizes, fascism.

Cult of leadership, objectively, does not apply to China. Evidence, peer-reviewed and heavily scrutinized evidence, is required for someone to advance politically in China. You do not get ahead due to myths or who you blow; unlike the US for instance, where wealth objectively buys power.. This does lead to more competent leaders, of course, but that’s not a ‘cult of leadership’ as we see with US presidents or of course the Big H. We don’t say there’s a cult of leadership around Einstein, for a few obvious reasons.

Hyper-nationalism is also hilarious as a term written in English. Did you know, in communist China, your kids can be arrested if they do not pray to the flag and repeat the communist party’s attestation of loyalty to Xi Jinping‽ Oh. Oh wait. China does have national pride. They are responsible for the single greatest and fastest elimination of extreme poverty in world history. They are responsible for engineering feats that absolutely shadow the entirety of the West’s industrial golden age. There is more rail in China than the entirety of Both Americas, and all of Europe, and all of Russia, combined. And nearly all of it was built in the last 30 years. And all of it is affordable enough that the median worker can transit from Beijing to Xinjiang every work day, if they really wanted. That’d be New York to LA. That costs $3k in the US. Pride is not hypernationalism; but it can be confused for that if you happen to be an enemy of the western fascist hegemony.

The myth of national rebirth… as in they literally took power back from western colonial forces and an imperial dictatorship and created a people’s republic…? That would literally be a rebirth. I know you’re trying to echo Eco, but really this is just a poor point since it wasn’t a myth. It was the single largest popular revolution in world history.

State-directed capitalism, is weird name for socialism. I can link you a dozen books on how exactly the Chinese economy works if you get tired of random journalists with no economic background telling you randomly-strung together words.

So in short, no. It doesn’t ring a bell. I might update with more sources but honestly I’m bored at this point.

I hope you educate yourself further. It’s genuinely tough to be well informed in the west, what with the massive online censorship and complete misinformation from multi-trillion dollar propaganda campaigns, but it’s worth it, I promise.

  • The country that pioneered online censorship? The one that was trying to de-anonymize the internet while China just didn’t have internet access for 99.9999999% of its population? The country, first among developed country, that made political speech against the regime a criminal offense that starts at jail time? The literal blueprint for how not to make laws in regards to privacy or any possible definition of the word ‘freedom?’

Yeah it’s weird seeing cameras on every block in China… or Berlin. But unlike the latter it doesn’t actually do anything in China. Like you have to commit an actual crime, and usually you’d be stopped by locals long before the police do anything based on the footage.

Projection is the favourite tactic of fascists; and literally any horror story you’ve heard about China (all of which have been through organizations exclusively funded by the National Endowment for Democracy, a CIA run organization) is just something actively happening in the US or EU.

  • You would have to be literally insane to think the US, literally the personification of the western world representing all of the values, and frankly all of the power, of all European-founded nations that have existed for the last four millennia, is on the same side as Russia – who to be clear wants to be on the same side as Europe and the US but was roundly rejected after the fall of the USSR because of literal racism despite doing every single tiny thing every single western nation asked, much to their own damage; much less China who has been ostracized and victimized by the US and EU for longer than practically any other group.

The US and EU have been the axis of evil in the world. The EU has killed more civilians than Nazi Germany with its wars and previous and continued occupation of ‘free’ nations (that cannot go against their owners’ orders without a military coup); and of course the US was the blue print for the nazis, quite famously even, and has killed so many more people around the world no intelligent person could possibly ever confuse them with ‘good,’ even in opposition to some mythologized evil.

It is the US and EU vs the entire world, as it has been since 1945 when battle lines were drawn that if you were not in central Europe or North America, you were either an enemy or a victim.

The EU can try to weasel their way out of the sinking ship now that the US is just open about everything they’re doing – and that is the only difference MAGA made, by the way, just that the US is too incompetent or uncaring to hide their atrocities – but ultimately there is too much blood staining the hands of every EU citizen to ever be allies with anyone but the US.

At best they weaken themselves and make themself an enemy or a victim to the US, only one or the other exists to the US without the Eurosphere, and at worst they’ll be speaking Russian and dealing with unregulated capitalism by the end of the decade unless they start letting fly the nukes.

China wants a ‘1st world nation’ QOL without exploitation for every citizen, and prioritizes that. Russia wants to enrich its upper class as much as possible, and doesn’t care if they step on EU toes to do so anymore since they WERE NOT REWARDED FOR DOING EVERYTHING THE WEST ASKED in the 1990s, and the US is the exact same as it has always been, except they ran out of victims in the Americas and aren’t being polite about their genocides anymore.

    Pick your poison EU.
