  • Reality is a team sport, to some people. They don’t mean things when they say words. They’re just signalling loyalty to their ingroup hierarchy, and playing a dominance game where they get to decide what’s true. It’s not a judgement call. In their worldview there is no objective means to evaluate claims. There’s just whatever their guy says, and whatever our guy says, and their guy is right because he’s their guy.

So please stop falling for it when they declare themselves fiscal experts. They don’t give the slightest shit. They’re just shuffling cards. It’s another song and dance they do, to grasp for narrative legitimacy. Nothing else exists in their moral universe.

  • I only recently tossed a Handbook Of Christian Apologetics by Tacelli & Kreeft. I was never devout, let alone outright brainwashed into anti-science nonsense, but at the cusp of my reddit atheist phase I figured a question this big deserved a fair shake. So I got a big ol’ book of the best arguments anyone had. They all sucked. So that was that.

The one that made me put the book down and go ‘yep, atheist’ was “the argument from magic.” You think about moving your hand. Your hand moves by thought alone. Magic! Therefore, Jesus. I fucking wish I was exaggerating.

Took another decade to figure out the people pushing these arguments don’t actually give a shit about being right. The point is performing loyalty to the ingroup. There’s a conclusion, and it comes from people above you, so your job is to make whatever mouth noises get there. A monotheistic god is only the purest expression of that tribalist worldview.

  • this shit is dumb

    You have a terrible workflow.

    Square peg, round hole.

I can hammer in nails with the back of a screwdriver.

people are gonna tell you its your own fault. And they’re right.

That’s just what people have said to me, personally, in this thread. Including you. The rest of the thread is worse:

    Firefox fixes someones mental illness…

Is this a new mental illness I haven’t heard of?

anyone who needs (or let’s be honest, thinks they need) hundreds of thousands of open tabs has something wrong with their brain and should probably see a professional about it.

AKA User was so stupid, he or she should better not use a computer in the first place.

I have only ever been responding to y’all bitching about us. I am explaining, more politely than your conduct deserves, how and why this is exactly what Firefox is for. Mozilla explicitly tests for it. The feature is right there, on purpose, and works fine. It only fucks up the same way Firefox can fuck up the bookmarks y’all keep telling people to use.

    Losing data is bad, actually.

I started taking backups of my profile because Reddit Enhancement Suite kept losing all my settings. You wanna whine at me that settings aren’t meant to be persistent, and I should reconfigure every plugin each time I start my browser? Because the difference between that list of options and the list of open tabs is next to nothing.
